What % of surfers do you think type in 'wwwsitename.com' instead of 'www.sitename.com?' What % of users dont put in a 'www' at all?

I've checked the logs for some of my generic names that are pure type-ins without any SE listings, and my results are fairly consistently:

www.sitename.com = 80%
sitename.com = 20%

I don't have any results for wwwsitename.com as I don't have both varieties in a domain name - maybe another member does, it would be interesting to find out. My guestimate would be 2 to 3 percent of surfers forget the dot after the www when typing a domain name into their browsers.

I think proprom means a typo, w/o the dot.

This would fall below 1%

My educated guess, as I did look into this matter several months ago ... is that the percentage would be very, very low. Probably less than a fraction of Doberry's 1%.
So, while it may be worth it to register wwwsex.com (if you have a sex site), will you break the bank in this scenario, or could it be used as effectively with other words?? Extremely doubtful, in my opinion. Good Luck.

I think we're underestimating the type-ins that wwwname.com domains really receive, especially with the high-profile generic words.

I checked out quite a few and note that all of the good www names were grabbed about four or five years ago, and the registrants have renewed them every year since. The registrants are top players in the domain industry.

Some folks have regged a number of my .com domain names with www and even ww in front of the generic word, and interestingly this is also true of of a .net I have where they’ve regged wwwmyname.net and wwmyname.net.

doberry and CoolHost are correct, it does look to be below 1%. I've recently picked up the www version of a good type-in generic .com I already own, and my stats show that the www type-ins are about .33% (one-third of a percent) of the generic .com daily type-ins, viz:

Daily type-ins
www.sitename.com = 240
sitename.com = 60
wwwsitename.com = 1
