.UK.com & .GB.com : How good an investment ?

Does anybody who does enough business w/UK extensions think these 2 cousin exts are good bets for hand-regging or after market ? I've always been interested in .co.UK for obvious reasons and realize .UK.com is gaining ground and to some extent .GB.com is too but the latter to a much smaller extent being largely unknown and relatively newer

I read somewhere that just as .MX recently, the plain .UK ext is finally going to be available to the public, it looks like it's been used for restricted purposes for a long time

I also find the cost of CentralNicUK for these 2 more minor exts to be way too high, I've been looking for resellers that charge as little as L 22 for a .GB.com for example, no luck yet. Dotster has both exts for a lot cheaper than NetSol for instance but if you want the really good names, short, they often appear as taken on Dotster or NetSol but CentralNic will show them as readily available. I'm used to that for .ES and .MX so no surprise there

I thought some of you may know if the simple .UK ext talk has any truth in it, while .co.UK won't be blown out of the water instantly that would attract many more new domain investors, and .GB.com and .UK.com will be worth even less...

You should ask yourself, what kind of investment will you get for a subdomain?

My answer is zero, don't waste your time and money registering subdomains.
 
I agree with TheWatcher. I haven't heard about .uk going public. Great news if it's true.
 
Do not invest in fake extensions.

.uk.com domains are used occasionally here in the UK, though not often. No one uses .gb.com, absolutely no one. From an investments perspective, I'd steer clear of both.

As for Nominet releasing second level domains, that isn't on the cards and in all likelihood, never will be. If they were to be released they would most likely be allocated to the .co.uk registrant(s) anyhow.

My opinion is that .gb.com and .uk.com are junk extensions and even worse than the worst ccTLD. The .uk ccTLD has around 7.8 million domains and about 90% of those are .co.uk sub domains so even if registration was allowed at the second level (example.uk) it would take a while to change that figure.

personally i wouldnt reg one
some businesses do get .uk.com as they arent that well versed and cant get anything else

however,

if you bought 1 for development, you can do as well as anything else

yes the exception rather than the rule, but problem is most people on this forum see black or white and dont see wood for trees

so, dont bother for investment as also subdomains technically but if a top keyword and you develop, and fancy just getting one, why not?

what would you do if you owned us.com?

beauty is, more people using thier subdomains, helps their parked page too, as well as their annual charges

damn, where is that time machine again?
 
I bought Money.gb.com for $5 a few months ago and couldn't resell it to anyone for even a dollar, so I let it drop. So, as far as I'm concerned, .gb.com is rubbish :)
 
If your looking to use gb.com or uk.com for keyword domains why not just purchase a LLL domain, then create as many sub domains as you'd like.

The price of LLL domains are becoming very reasonable, plus you could always build the master domain into brand for your network.

I have ker.me and will be launching a bloging network with it, all with just a single domain renewal fee.
 
Waste of money for investment purposes, .co.uk and .org.uk are the best ones to be selling to the .uk market.
