We heard this was coming - Just got this from ENOM - Also have been told that a complete audit of .us whois registrations will be performed after this move, to assure that this country code domain is being used according to the registration terms regarding foreign ownership.

Dear eNom reseller,

.US has made a dramatic change in their policy saying (in part):

"The United States Department of Commerce's National Telecommunications and Information Administration ("NTIA") has recently completed its review of "proxy" or anonymous domain registration services by .us Accredited Registrars. At the conclusion of this review, NTIA directed NeuStar to phase out the offering of such services by Registrars or by any of its partners or resellers and to ensure that complete and accurate WHOIS data is provided for any existing registrations in .us."

Although we disagree with this policy, we will comply and will require our resellers and sub-resellers to make the necessary changes. Therefore, we will prohibit the offering of eNom's ID Protect or similar services to .US registrations. This policy takes effect immediately and ONLY applies to .US registrations.

The service will continue to be provided for existing .US ID protect customers until their ID protect expiration date or January 26, 2006, whichever comes first.

Hi - Have no idea how they plan to pull that off. What a job that would be. Steve

Any idea when they're gonna start this ?
Will it be after January 2006 so they can also check enom's domains ?

BTW,
I think GoDaddy still allows private whois for .us domains

GD will have to comply since NeuStar is being directed to do this. Just because they offer it now doesn't mean they will in two weeks.

Believe me, the DoC and Neustar can find out who's behind a private .us registration. They don't need to wait for anything. If they have ANY trouble they can just delete the thing. Foreign registrars still have to answer to the Registry and to ICANN, and ICANN and the Registry still answer to the DoC.

That is right Dan - The DOC ultimately runs the show from what I hear. I also heard that they are having many complaints across the board on private registrations and not just on the .us ext. This is the first I have heard of a "recall on private registrations" on any extentsion though. I do know from a number of sources, that they are talking a hard look at foreign registration qualifications for .us as we speak. Steve
