Vacy, New South Wales (Australia)
The tiny town of Vacy lies between the Hunter Valley and the Barrington Tops, one of the largest national parks in New South Wales. It is surrounded by rugged peaks including Mt George, Mt Breckin and Mt Johnstone.
There are several interesting historic buildings in the town including St John's Church, Vacy Public School and the Farmers Hotel, which was rebuilt over 100 years ago after a disasterous fire destroyed an earlier structure. A pamphlet is available which details a heritage walk around the village, taking in all the historic buildings.
Vacy lies on the banks of the Paterson River, about 1km upstream from the junction with the Allyn River. Near the historic bridge at the northern end of town, rainbow honeyeaters can be seen in the summer months.
