NEW YORK, NY – Although many had hoped it wouldn’t happen, Verisign (NASDAQ: VRSN), the company behind the registration and creation of .COM domain names, has been given the virtual green light by the US Government to raise the price of .com domain names by 7% in each of the last four years of each six-year contract. https://www.strategicrevenue.com/ve...l-to-raise-com-prices-price-controls-deleted/

its not fair to investors should have a special rate $2 per year

Given the enormous value built up behind most dot-coms, Verisign will almost certainly take the opportunity to increase its price each time (it certainly has every other previous time it has been allowed to raise prices). That means that likely dot-com prices looking forward will be:
  • 2019: $7.85
  • 2020: $7.85
  • 2021: $8.40
  • 2022: $8.99
  • 2023: $9.62
  • 2024: $10.29

Did they not have .org at one time? They no longer do. There are others that would be happy to take over the .com registry. The cost of hosting did not get more expensive over time, it got cheaper, so the price of the registry should also go down.

As for Rick, he is not relevant anymore but it is funny that he now has his millions and wants to push out the few guys who do not have a large portfolio.
