Well, I must say that I am very impressed with the offerings and the POTENTIAL of this new area of the forum. Before I could even consider investing the money to join the "Exclusive" group, however, I frankly need some help to figure out how to do something that probably everyone else knows how to do.

If anyone in this "exclusive" group can help me figure out how to do this simple task, I will personally pull together every penny I have to try to join.

First ... to explain why money is such a problem right now, let me tell you the following:

1) I have just lost my home, including the close to $300,000.00 equity in the home, because I happen to have a spouse who was "too scared" to make needed phone calls or even to discuss problems with me in a timely fashion that could have saved this disaster from happening.

2) I have just completed moving my office from one location to another, only to discover that a small group of so-called "friends" (again, friends of my spouse) "helped" me move by ripping off over $20,000 worth of goods, including most of my electronic equipment, computers, etc. Needless to say, I'm in a state of complete shock, but trust me ... the perps have been appropriately reported to the authorities and will probably end up spending quite a few years as "guests" of the state. Unfortunately, for the time being, I'm running all of my businesses on even a shorter shoestring than I was before, when I could not afford even the Platinum membership that one sweet member decided to donate to me.

3) This mess has left me losing a number of my favorite domain names, because I simply did not have the funds to replace equipment I needed and also renew many of my domain names.

Now, with all of that said ... I DO NOT want to get out of the domains business, because I have made some nice sales and have a number of solid plans for selling my domains. I just need to find a good local person who can help me carry out my plans. As you all know, running a successful domain names business with only one person at the helm, doing all of the work, all of the marketing, and every other task, is close to impossible.

What would help me the most in terms of information from YOU GUYS that could help me tremendously is simply this:

Could someone PLEASE share with me one or several reasonably priced (read that as: "as cheaply as possible") way to track type-in traffic to my various names? I have searched and searched and can't seem to find the answer to this all-important question.

If someone HERE, in the "exclusive" area would be so kind as to share a "secret" or two about this process with me, that could really help me continue my domains business and move my business to the higher level that I am ready to move it to. Without this information, I don't believe that I can do so.

So ... if someone would be so kind as to help me figure out this process, I promise that I will not only find SOME way to join the "exclusive" membership group, but I will also find a number of ways of paying back that kindness to others in the forum.

Is there anyone out there with a heart big enough to help? I don't think that you will regret your decision to help me if you decide to do so. If "exclusive" members are not in the mind set to not only sell a heck of a lot of their own names but to do so in a way that recognizes what all MBA programs are teaching these days ... that there is an effective way of doing business that stresses the "WIN-WIN" approach to selling (in other words, helping others helps us, as well), then perhaps this is not the place for me.

On the other hand, if others can embrace the "WIN-WIN" approach to the extent that they can help me out with a few ideas that you all take for granted, I will never forget your kindness and you will not be sorry that you helped out a fellow domainer who has been dealt a couple of horrible blows that were not of her own doing.

I hope that some of you will reply to my request for help with a few simple ideas. Preaching, criticism, and kicks in the butt are not what I need right now. Okay?

Best regards,
Sheila

Sheila, I'll be glad to help you the best I can with this. There's no real secret about it, but it can get a little technical. Let's PM.

Dear RJ,

I didn't expect to see you here tonight at this hour, but I'm not surprised that it was you who responded to me. Wow ... I don't know how you do it, but you have ALWAYS been there for me. Keep this up and you're going to get nominated for Sainthood ... and that comment is coming from me, a nice Jewish woman who knows nothing about how to nominate one for such a status, but who might just find out in your case!!

We will definitely "talk" about this. You are truly the GREATEST!!!

Now, where the heck are the smilies that let you send mega-hugs to someone?

Love ya,
Sheila

Thanks, Slash ...

And here I've been thinking about how I already owe youa response to the very interesting and kind PM you sent me a couple of weeks ago, before my world sort of caved in. I promise that I WILL be answering your PM ... I think you can see now why I haven't been able to do so earlier.

Thanks again for the encouragement and help.

Warmest regards,
Sheila

Shiela,

It's quite alright. Don't worry about that! Focus on getting these brushfires put out. If needed, help is usually only a PM/email away from your fellow domainers.

Take care...

Dear DNForum Friends,

I am absolutely speechless. Yes, the one who writes all of those long messages is actually speechless. I am overwhelmed with the kindness and encouragement I have received from all of you. I will be taking you up on your offers of help, too, and you can bet that your kindness will not only be appreciated, but it will be repaid many times over.

Thank you all for being there when I really need you. What an incredible community of people we have here when the chips are down. With this much love and caring, we can accomplish anything.

Love to all of you,

Sheila

PS And Tucker, our Vice President for Non-Human Resources, has officially put his "paw of approval" on this forum, as well. He is busy explaining all of this to Dawson, his 20-pound Maine coon cat "assistant," who is a little slow, but trying to emulate Tucker's actions.

Sheila -

What a coincidence - I just lost a house with about $300,000 equity, because my wife said she wanted to "work on herself" and have a "simple, mediated" divorce. I agreed and moved out, then find out #1) she signed the house over to herself, forging my name, #2) she cleaned out the bank accounts. I started 2 businesses BEFORE marriage but incorporated them during marriage. I tried to be fair and let her run the more valuable one, while I ran the less valuable one (domains). She went to court suddenly claiming I was harassing customers and staff (I had no contact with them at all) in an ex-parte emergency hearing (with means you are not allowed to present a defense or say anything at all!) and was excluded from the business. Within 60 days the very profibale business was dead, bank accounts drained, and she's trying to liquidate assets as fast as possible. Just this week I discover that she formed a new corporation the day I moved out, and has been shopping for patent attorneys for that companies product, so she can continue business under her new company... I know this because she was billing the legal fees to MY company! We're approaching trhe $100,000 mark in legal fees, no end in sight. A judge did rule that the signover of the property was a bit suspicious (no bill of sale, no writing agreement, no payment, and 3 conflicting stories from her about how it happened), but the killer is California uses a formula where when a couple marry and once spouse owned the property 1st (her), the 2nd spouse is only entitled to 10% of the increase in equity, and nearly NONE of the value of improvements (we built a $120,000 at her insistance!). I was "allowed" to keep all but 100 of my domain names in exchange for my interest in the house, even though many were purchase before marriage. Translation: totally screwed.

Of course, I am a webmaster... just starting on a website detailing our divorce, and I'll be scanning the actual documents, receipts, etc to prove at least 100 lies she has told about me, many under penalty of perjury. I'll PAY to get them listed in the search engines, just in case I'm forced to take them down, they will reappear elsewhere for the rest of her life :)

OK... on to type-ins... please read my rant "Traffic... what's the deal". There IS NO way to accurately measure type-ins. Many people assume that a page view with a blank refer-back and agent that looks like a browser is a type-in. It's like saying every person you see wearing pants is a male, because females wear dresses. Isn't true, and has never been true. Many web crawlers, email harversters, automated archivers, and other programs mimic a browser with no refer-back, at the owners gleefully report them as type-ins.

Dear Dale,

I'm so sorry to hear of everything that has happened to you. I will write more a little later, but please know that you are in my thoughts and I'm hoping that both you and I can do better in the domains business than we have to this point. No matter how well you have done, I'm sure you wouldn't mind doing a little better, right?

I have to run to our all-night K-mart to buy some "Juicy Juicy" cat food for our busy, hard-working Vice President, who loves that junky stuff more than Fancy Feast or anything else. He seems to like to slurp up all of the juice if it's a fish flavor, then pretends to groom himself, while in actuality he takes a bath in it and thinks he smells delightful!!!

I've hear that K-Mart is discontinuing his favorite flavors (they call it "Best" cat food ... hahaha), claiming that "cats don't like it." But hey, what do THEY know about what cats like? Leave it to Tucker ... he is truly the expert on matter such as this, and for some reason, it has his complete and total "seal of approval."

If you get a chance, take a look at Tucker's "story" on my web site and you will get a sense of why this little guy can have ANYTHING he wants. If it's stinky cat food that makes him purr and smile (yep, he really does smile), then stinky cat food is what he shall have.

In the midst of all sorts of miserable things that have happened in my life over the past two years, he has been the shining star that seems to survive everything and keeps me going in the process. I'll write more later, but know that I do understand a lot of what you are going through. That may not change things, but consider yourself to have found a new friend here. Feel free to PM or email me at any time.

Warmest regards,
Sheila
