It seem they are going to wildcard .VN

Dot VN, Inc.,an Internet and Telecommunications Company and the exclusive online global domain name registrar for the Country of Vietnam, announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hi-Tek Multimedia, Inc. has received exclusive rights from the Vietnamese Government’s Vietnam Internet Network Information Centre (VNNIC) to immediately implement and commercialize the official pay-per-click (PPC) parking page for the country code Top Level Domain (“ccTLD”) .VN, and create and promote links for domain registrations, domain appraisals and a smart search engine for the .VN ccTLD.

I doubt they will get so much traffic. .vn is far from .cm or even .et

actually they will get decent amount of traffic, for sure less than .cm

.et was wildcarded a while back but was taken down after about 2 month.

it's close to .cn, one of the most established ccTLD.

Now every nail salon girl in the US can have her own domain!

A joke about the upcoming popularity of .vn :D

Clever move.
I can't see why not, but this would work for IDNs too? (i.e. when someone mistypes an IDN.cn as IDN.vn)

I really don't think this was done for typo's. Vietnamese traffic and user penetration is moving up in the charts at a fast clip. Many websites have been and are currently being developed in Vietnam for quite a few people and companies outside of Vietnam. IT and development skills are high in Vietnam.

Users on on the increase. As far as IDN's are concerned, yes, Vietnam is a prime candidate for heavy IDN usage by 2011. There are many reasons for this, but the primary reason is that Vietnamese words rely heavily on accents to differentiate meanings.

Once the latests browsers have been autoupdated in Vietnam, the classic 404 will stop showing as much and IDN penetration will continue to increase.

if setup correctly, it will fetch everything with .vn ending.
