"People trying to register .tv domain names are being warned that the island of Tuvalu, which the domain represents, is sinking.

Domain registrar GoDaddy is even claiming that, because the Pacific Ocean island could go the way of Atlantis, users should opt for .com or .net domains instead.

As a result of global warming Tuvalu - which at it's peak is just 5m above sea-level - could disappear, and if it ceases to exist so will .tv domains."

Hasn't this been discussed in 2007?

fearmongering by saying 'are' vs. 'might' or 'may' or 'could' or 'possibly'

mis-leading grab for attention imo

I just copied the title of the article and used it as my title. I have previously invested heavily in .tv, love the extension etc and am just wondering what the forums thoughts are regarding this potential issue.

it won't happen any time soon. I say probably decades or centuries into the future it will sink.

i dont want to hear this. I just invested in some. k thanks

ok. Sorry. Was a spur in the moment thing.

I have just bought a .tv domain.
I will be very sad if .tv domains are gone :(

I don't see the logic behind this, although I have not invested in .tv at all, but see the example of .su, you don't need to have an existing country for a domain extension to remain on the market.

Exactly what I was thinking, but all I want to know, how can I own the .xom or .con or some simular extention?

The island of .tel is under water , Most people think .tv stands for television so i dont think its no big deal.

Is the .tv handled by the island's registrar? If yes the extension will sink with it anf if no then I don't see any prob.

i thought this thread was refering to the face the Demand Media aka enom is charges too much and give no waring to users that reg names at $20 back to $50. what will stop them from making it 2 year min or raising the price again?

The premiums are a huge joke and im speaking from experience. I do own a few but like many i worry and i wouldnt have a huge portfolio of .tv names
