I noticed in NYT today that the Weather Channel and associated properties (like weather.com) has been bought by NBC Universal+ for around $3.5b in cash and equity.

The article mentioned that weather.com attracts 40m uniques per month.

Not being based in the US, I usually source weather details/forecasts from the local news website or via the firefox add-on - keen to hear from others on DNF (esp. the US-based ones) if the Weather Channel/weather.com is the favoured online destination for that news sector?

I check weather.com everyday and I know several of my co-workers do the same.

Almost all sites that monitor tropical cyclones (hurricanes etc..) either get their information from Weather.com or NOAA. Hopefully they keep this up since it is good to see both maps for preparations.

Weather.com for the daily weather but definitely the NOAA weather charts when it's hurricane season! What do you say Draggar, will Bertha be the big one? :D

According to both tracks she doesn't seem to be heading to the US at all, but they said that about Jeanne and Wilma. They also said that Katrina wouldn't amount to much.

Good sale for NBC, though. I'm assuming by "associated properties" that also includes all of the weather equipment they have?

I know some of you don't like .mobi but check out http://WichitaWeather.mobi. Hopefully tomorrow this will be set up for 67 markets in the U.S. You can click on the radar and satellite views. Also the severe weather will show hurricane reports for you coasters. These radar, satellite and severe weather reports all come from the National Weather Service.
