Just because it's being marketed as "Los Angeles" doesn't mean it is the extension for Los Angeles. It is the extension for Laos. The same thing applies to ws. Just because it's being marketed as "Web Site" doesn't mean it stands for Web Site. It is the extension for Western Samoa. There is no "trend" towards city extensions. There aren't any city extensions. There aren't even any state extensions.

You are absolutely correct in this assessment EXCEPT that in the case of .la LAOS actually sold the extension for $$$ - It really does not belong to LAOS anymore. If you need more backup on this research I'll be glad to send it to you. Stay cool Toasty

They might have paid for exclusive use of the extension, but I don't think it was sold. The WHOIS still shows "Lao National Internet Committee" as the owner, but it may be out of date.
