Earlier today, DNW reported, and later, analyzed Deloitte’s press release on the global consulting firm’s application for a .deloitte TLD. In dissecting the press release, DNW pitted the .deloitte TLD against the equivalent dot com, and struggled to make sense of the rationale behind this move. I say, what’s sense got to do with it? vanity extensions that's all they are and will ever be .. like .jobs never saw one rank any where .. it will always be the .com corporate site that wins

Five words spring to mind:

'Cash Grab'

&

'Pump and Dump'

Companies will buy them because they really have nothing to lose. It won't make a difference to Google's bottomline if it spends $1M/year on its own extensions. Companies have paid far more in the past for bragging rights.
