What are the ODS of actually getting a good domain?

Ok so you have found a domain that is about to expire and it has tons of back-links already indexed in all the major search engines.

Should you go with godaddy or Snap to catch it or just go with Pool?

Just how competitive can I expect this proccess to be? Is it still possible to get a valuable domain for a steal?

if its a goodie then you need to order it at all the major catchers so you will be assured to get in on the auction at where ever it gets caught, you won't steal it.
