I was contemplating buying a domain that was pending delete but it must have got deleted. How long after it is deleted do you have to wait to register it again?

Domain in status PENDINGDELETE is unrecoverable under normal circumstances

How long after it is deleted do you have to wait to register it again?

Once it is deleted you can register it right away (status PENDINGDELETE lasts afaik 5 days), but it is more likely it will be snatched by someone seconds after deleted
