I am interested in a domain that's expiring in 10 days and is listed as a SnapNames backorder (not preorder) at expiringdomains.net. I'd rather not pay $59 to SnapNames and get it at a reg fee (I'm pretty sure no one else will want it). Why is it even listed as a SnapNames backorder--why not NameJet or any other drop catcher? Is it going to be released/deleted if no one bids on it?

You may see the name not drop as some "warehouse" their domains. Godaddy was notorious for this years back but I believe the practice may be against ICANN rules now. Although, doubtful it is policed the way it should be.

It will either...

A)Drop and be available to reg again.
B)Be kept by the rar and added to the warehouse ;)

I do not believe that B is against any ICANN practice unless I missed that change.

It's a variation/misspelling of a name that I already own. No one else would want it--I'm sure it has zero traffic and no stats whatsoever. I just wouldn't mind owning it if I can get it at $5.

Its simple, ask yourself this question. Is spending $50 more to be sure you get it worth it. If you didnt bid and the rar kept it, would you be cool with that for $50?
