I am also intrigued as to how you know it gets traffic if it is in someone elses account at mydomain.

Hey Tutor:

Our less-than-fully-informed moderator needs to chill out (put a little safesys on that willie), because there is nothing at all wrong with fair Wanda having scored a domain that was pointing to a mydomain.com page. Apparently the esteemed "safe" one, 'tho moderator, doesn't appreciate that the DNS can stay pointed to wherever and that this doesn't mean the new domain owner is stealing a durn thing. Hosting could have been paid up through 2007 by the former domain owner. CHILLLLLLL OUT, SAFE ONE.

P.S. Why is safesys so concerned about whether Wanda is really a "she?" Is there a subtext going on here?

dod, there is nothing illinformed with my post whatsoever - please explain to me the specific section that you consider to be technically incaccurate. When you reg a domain you specify the delegations, these delegations specify the nameserver that you wish to use with the domain. The nameserver then resolves the domain to an ip address. in this instance they entered delegations that matched those of the previous owner and that is mydomain who forward the requests (most likely via a frame based redirect) to targetwords with the affiliate code of the previous owner. Their original post was talking of it being live, hosted and with traffic - well, unless they have superhuman powers there is no way they can tell it gets traffic - and a mydomain redirect doesn't really count as "hosting".

the really funny part is I know the old owner very well and I cannot see him being interested in buying the domain back (despite their comments to the contrary) - I shall ask him when i talk to him over the next few days.

yes, there is a context re the "she" as wanda was banned from here and its obvious from the posts made that this is wanda and/or wanda's partner with no more intention than to try and syphon traffic because they sure aren't getting any based on their content. If you check the posts sitetutor uses "she" and "we" interchangably.

just because i'm a moderator of one of the forums doesn't mean i have to sacrifice my own opinions - so unless your comment relates specifically to a moderation activity then my "mod" tag is irrellevant.

My friend has replied and confirmed that they contacted him and tried to convince him of the value of the name, not the other way around. At least its made him smile knowing someone is pointing a domain he no longer owns to his revenue making page for free.

Thanks for explaining the subtext. I see that you or one of your colleagues has booted her/him/it, as well. Goodbye Wanda, whoever you are.

Greetings from Canada,

We were successful in "snapping up" www.ApplicationServiceProvider.com off a drop list using SnapNames service. We contacted the original owner PRIOR to the name becoming available in an effort to acquire it. After our inquiry, they replied, requesting significant $$ for the Domain, only to let it expire anyways. Go Figure. Subsequent to this successful acquisiton, we were contacted within a few days of by an interested third party, however, we turned them away as the Domain is not for sale. Keep up the great posts everyone - excellent information and very little nonsense here.

Warmest Regards and Thanks for Participating.

Yours For Success,
