It seems like a large portion of domain names that go up for sale have already changed hands once or twice. Is this the majority? Have most domain names been floating around between the players for years, or are there plenty of first time domain names coming up for auction?

Like a fine painting being sold from collector to collector. Does anyone ever rebuy a domain they sold before?

With around 80 million names (just .com), I'd hazard most sales are first timers. When you move to the top of the domain pyramid (e.g. business.com, sex.com, etc.) the dynamic changes somewhat however not as much as you'd think as many are held for long periods.

Though biased to public sales, I did poke around in the domain sales database in coming to the above conclusions.
