The Registry database contains ONLY .COM, .NET, .EDU domains and
Registrars.
No match for "_____.com" in the registrar database.

I was waiting for this domain to expire before I tried putting it on back-order, but on the very last day they ended up renewing it. However, all of the information that was there before isn't there anymore. And the whois ends with "No match for "_____.com" in the registrar database.". It's almost as if the customer has given up on the domain, but GoDaddy continues to own it? I am kind of hoping GoDaddy automatically re-leases the domain for another year in case the customer still wants it, but after the wait period they'll put it up for auction or let it expire completely?

Or is this domain simply a lost cause now? Any explanation would be helpful, I find this to be a bit confusing! Thanks!

This is not the full whois. It's showing registry data only.
The registrar record may indicate that the name expired 19-jul-2008, so it might be available at tdnam.com then dropped according to the domain lifecycle.

Looks like it has expired. It will go into redemption and then it might drop. Right now GD owns it.

If it's at GD and it just expired it won't show up anywhere for 72 days and then probably tdNam. Other registrars it could be up to 75 days.
A person can get the domain back for 30 days after expir for the same cost before it goes into Redemption Period then pending delete

Oh wow. I was expecting around 35 days. Gosh...75 days is a long time. Guess I just have to be patient.

A registrar can pretty much extend the period prior to redemption indefinitely. eNom and other registrars profit from traffic of expired domains for years.

Hey guys, just thought I'd give you an update on this. I thought the domain would end up on tdnam.com but I did a backorder through GoDaddy just in case. The backorder was a success and GoDaddy captured the name for me today. Woohoo!

To be honest, the name isn't that great, but I had been developing a site around weedr.net, and then I realized that I *really* wanted the dot-com. Probably not worth more than the reg fee to anyone but me. But before the guy was listing it SEDO for $3000 USD so I feel pretty good about this :)

.. actually, taking a look on SEDO right now, it's still listed... but I own it. What the heck is going on?
