thanks for the link.
That was a very interesting article.
My strategy when selling is different though.
I usually stick to my asking price (or very close to it) with persistance.

The one variable in the pricing of GBDomain.com is -

"How many other people want the domain?"

If he was going after DomainName.com, the situation would be the opposite.

I believe BD's former selling approach was similar to Domain Collection.
But, I now understand that they are going in the opposite direction.

"Trying to appear as small as possible (translation: not able to pay much), I initially used a private email address and played down any business connection. I did not identify myself as a Wall Street Journal reporter until the end of negotiations."

LOL.

Sometimes it seems like ALL inquiries come on Lilliputians.

Do any of you guys see this trend in inquiries?

It's truly laughable to hear alot of the BS stories that get told to me.

I like the made up charity ones best - the "you'd be helping humanity if you gave us your name" emails.

Nice story, but I can't find any connection with "Expiring Domains"?

Yes, the "poor little charity" that turned out to be a $74 million dollar a year cash cow --or another truly evil church that masquerades as a charity and collects $100 million each Christmas season from its kettles but has funded the legal defenses for numerous accused child molesters (its ministers).

This article is pure BS. I like how the writer wants to appear as "little" as possible, because he thinks that writing for the WSJ makes him big fish - and yet considers $195 a premium price? That's less than a car payment.

I wonder if he was negotiating with those Kenyatech guys, they're known to drop the price from high 4 to low 3 digits. BuyDomains would never do such a break.

Edit: that explains a lot: the writer is a "she". Man, I'm having some pain in the ass right now with an unprofessional female buyer at Escrow.

hey, let's not turn this thread in to trashing women. It was after all a woman that came up with the idea for e-bay.

By default, women are frugal and want to get "the best deal". Men simply want "the deal". It's as simple as that.

No, it wasn't.

Boy, your posting history sucks. You're inaccurate pretty often.

I'm sorry, it's a woman running it and the marketing behind it is because for her abilities. Okay, feel better have some dip...

Mmmm, thank you.

I don't believe women need to trashed, same as you. I don't think the WSJ article should be considered any differently because of what sex wrote it. I mean, I've read a lot of crap articles by men too.

How about -

"I'm not sure how this works - but..."
"A friend of mine said that...."
"We're just a couple of kids..."

Show me how many women are in the domain business. I can only count 4 or 5 on DNF. I am talking from experience: women buyers, like the article writer, are: demanding, holier-than-thou, ignorant, persistant, impolite, time-wasters. I'd rather haggle with a merchant from Iraq than to get migraines from an unorthodox buyer that busts my b@lls over a sale.

The "premium" the writer was referring to was the difference in cost between 9.95 for an unregistered domain (new registration) and the 195.00 that was paid for the domain. As for your edit, sexist comments like that don't belong here.
