Ideally, you want to have both > .in and .com

I would use .in if the websites serves India only, and .com if servers more countries than just India.

If India is the main market, .in fits nicely. If you have both, just choose one as the main site and point the other to it.

Just be careful with your name selection!

Even if you start with a .in it is advisable to also own the .com if you plan to sell outside of India

There is a website MaplePets.in and I keep getting inquiries for MaplePets.com and I don't think it's the .in owner inquiring.

If it's a competitor wanting to sell outside of the India market then the .in owner could lose market share.

When picking a name for your business its just as easy to pick something like MaplePetSupply if the .in and .com is available.

So pick carefuly but the first question to ask is...

Will I be local to my market or will I sell outside of it as well, which determines if a ccTLD or .com is applicable.
Quite honestly I like both and sometimes you have to make up a combination of words like what I did with MapleDots to own both variants.

If I was taregting the India market I would use .IN though.
