I am new to this domain thing and I have a number of domains I have found but I can't seem to find a consistent value of my domains. So I am asking for some clear directions on how to get the best free appraisal of my domains. I use the free service from Estibot and Valuate and don't like either one that much.

Thanks for your time.

It is impossible to create an automated tool that can accurately appraise a domain name. There are just too many intangible variables to consider. You would probably get a better appraisal here in the forum, but many people don't like to hear that they regged names that other domainers consider worthless. Estibot is good for looking at some of the important metrics like CPC and searches. You need to pay attention to what domains really sell for to get a handle on values.

Thanks for the reply. I am working on 2 different paths for my domains. One is sell and the other is to set up mini storefronts. It appears that most domains sell for 50-75% less than what Estibot or Valuate say the domains are worth. I know 1 & 2 word domains go for the most but some of the domains I have are 3,4 and 5 words long with high exact search counts so I think maybe they will be closer to the 50% range when it comes to values.

Another question I have is there a way to tell how many times a URL is typed in as opposed to searched?

Thanks again.

There is no such thing as accurate appraisal value. The ultimate value can vary a lot depending on the circumstances, the motivation of the buyer, and the skills of the seller. It all boils down to how badly somebody wants/needs the name.
Based on comparable, reported sales, you can try to derive an approximate 'market price', but that does not mean the odds of selling are high. In fact, only a tiny portion of domains will ever sell.
99% is crap that nobody wants, it has no value to anybody else than the owner.

Hint: fresh registrations are tough to sell, unless you are experienced and understand how to pick the right domains.

I agree, its not possible to create a perfect appraisal tool, i've coded one in the past, but it only worked for short DN.

A good appraisal is just several human point of view ;-)

Thanks for all the advice. I joined moniker and so far so good. I just wish I could download the domain list after I check the availability. Estibot is another great service.

Professional Real Estate appraisers use three approaches, we can valuate domains in much the same manner

- comparable sales - we can do this with domains as well
- replacement cost - not really applicable as registration cost is minimal
- income/cash flow - we can do this with domains as well

you can find domain sales databases and lookup sales of domains with your keywords- search for "domain sales history" to find sources

you can lookup Google CPC keyword prices for your domain name if it is generic enough and also find the number of searches, exact match and/or phrase match with certain names

Create a list of domains where you have a reported sales price that are in the same genre or same keywords as your domain name, then analyze these domains from a theoretical income approach ( obviously we are just using the numbers as an objective benchmark)

CPC x #searches = $per month

sales price / $per month = number of months

do this on many domains and get an average number of months

take that average number of months * your domain CPC x #searches = objective value of your domain

This type of objective analysis isn't going to work on "brand" domains where you don't have a CPC value and traffic estimates
