Which of these best describes a drinking establishment (answers from different countries helpful)...
Please rank them 1,2,3 ..... Cheers !!!

Bar
Tavern
Pub

Bar is best.

Tavern, not sure I've ever been in a tavern. Sounds dark and old.

Pub is definitely European.

I live on Cape Cod and there are a few Irish pubs.

1. Pub - couldn't be anything else
2. Tavern - couldn't be anything else, but not as widely used
3. Bar - not regarded (in UK) as a hardcore drinking establishment. Could also be a bar of chocolate, gold, iron - legal profession....

1) Bar

2) pub

3) Tavern

I also agree but when I hear "tavern" I think of my old days playing dungeons and dragons.

Also, are you looking for it to also serve food or no food?

A pub traditionally doesn't sell any food but a tavern does (or do I have it backwards?).

Bar is by far more "American" (Bar & Grill etc..). If you were targetting Europeans then I'd go with pub and/or tavern.
