it's supposed to go down not up! it's been virtually impossible to reg a short generic .com or even a good sounding made up name. the ext's got strong competitions but this is how the devil reacts...
thinking of an anti-trust class-action against verisign!

Actually ICANN gave many TLD registrars the option to increase their fees up to 10% PER YEAR effective with the signing of the renewal of their ICANN registry agreements. So Verisign is OK, I believe, with doing this. They can raise fees up to 10% per year, every year if they like.

I pre-pay 10 years renewal fees on all my "big domains" that I plan to keep for my use. That saves the price increases...

Frankly if this is going to have a significant impact, you should be re-evaluating your investments.

Perhaps, it would be a good thing if a few more people hesitated before registering utter crap.

This is going to seem incredibly cheap to those that face lawsuits for Typo Squatting.

If you have 1,000 domains, it will be an added ~ $420 per year considering that you already pay ~ $7,000... It's, for sure, 400 bucks that you could use for something else but well, facing new problems is part of every business!

Not necessarily. Also, when you project your business costs at the beginning of the year you don't need surprises like this.

It's not the price increase itself, it's the reasoning behind it. Verisign simply enforces the rules of their lucrative contract.
