Traffic is a measurement tool which gives you an impression about the popularity of a domain name and the amount of interest for that specific Keyword(s). Type-Ins create great value to a domain name for those reasons.

The same reason why a Billboard in New York's Times Square is very expensive to advertise on and rent. While a billboard on a remote rural road in Arkansas costs pennies in comparison.

Guess what area has more traffic. And guess why that area is A LOT more expensive to advertise in as a result. There's your answer.
