Unless the SLD is for some reason (brand, vanity, etc.) paramount then the next determining element for domain value is probably the Search Engine Result Position.
It is no secret that people who do a search engine lookup, most of the time browse through the top 10 to 25 (a page full ...) of results. To be known, a domain must be seen. The lower a domain is listed, the less probable it will be visited.

You don't necessarily have to BUY a domain with a high SERP. With quality content and link building, you can obtain a high SERP with any domain.
 
If you a high serp on different keywords then you will earn more money to that. :)
