Why .XXX domains are an obvious failure

Is it just me or is the ICANN plan to corral online porn going terribly wrong? Legitimate porn sites have little interest in the triple X domains.

Gay.xxx already sold for $500k....SheMale or SheMales.xxx (can't remember exactly) already sold for $200K....Clips4Sale invested $700k into some .xxx domains I had read online somewhere previously as well. I don't know that I would go investing that kind of money, but I still think it's a little too early to say whether this extension will really be a failure or not.
