But it actually depends what they rule on if the .com can still be used for adult sex websites...

But I really think having 1 new domain of .xxx will allow everyone that is looking for adult sites to go and aim for the .xxx in the type ins

I heard they where planning to only allow adult sites to use .xxx in the future. In a bid to clean up the internet.

I think that a lot of porn will be forced to move to .xxx, partly by government regulations. It's an opportunity to improve filtering and keep porn away from kids.

only way that the value would drop is if icann forced all adult sites to move to the new extention but i dont think they will as its gonna cost alot if you think how many adult sites there are out there

I still don't see how they could enforce it. .Com stands for commercial. Well these are legitamite businesses that sell goods. It would be discrimination.

Okay let's just pretend I hate chuch sites. Many of them have dot Com names that are not selling goods, if we bannish porn sites, then this should be done with all dot Com's that aren't selling goods.

And just because someone doesn't like something namely "PORN" which by the way the porn industry is a $57.0 billion world-wide - $12.0 billion US in sales that isn't a minority. That is a majority. And I can't stand the religous right trying to ignore the figures.

I don't see how they can rule to bannish sites, because a few people that can't get laid are pissed that people are making money off those who do. Or should that be the other way around.

they cannot force .com porn sites, or any other extension, into using xxx. the logistics of making that happen are impossible. not to mention all the free speech issues.

there are already plenty of options available for parents to block adult sites.

IMHO they could make the .com to have to forword to .xxx for filtering software to pick those sites, and say, yes, that is an adult site, but that causes an interesting question too: what if you had 69.com and I have the 69.net, who will get the .xxx?

Or simply set up the .com , .net, .org, .biz, .info .tv etc as a G rated portal to the xxx content that is hosted on the .xxx domain. Put your legal disclaimer and warning that it is adult content there, and links to the .xxx domain. Ever heard of a G rated trailer to .xxx film? If the computer is blocked the .xxx links wont work. Brandability for the non .xxx domain is crucial here since you want an adult customer to renember the portal name when they return looking for porn from a non .xxx blocked computer.

My take is an increase in value for brandable .com porn names and also brandable .com names in general.

That was never the issue, the .xxx idea came from adult sites, not the churches or the goverment. It is a way to police our own, rather then let the churches take it in their own hands.

Lets also note this:

Buns.com: porn
BJ.com: porn
bj.org: jewish site
BJS.com: BJ's Wholesale Club

So if a software blocks the keyword "BJ" then they are blocking the jewish site and the wholesale club. If it blocks all sites with watersports cause of Watersports.com, then they are also blocking a lot of other sites.

What the .xxx does is it makes it a lot easier for the software to ONLY block the keyword xxx and then the other names that are mainsteam businesses (as in sites like bjs.com) are left alone, and not blocked.

You can't keep kids from porn anyway that is so fuc*ing stupid, we come from sex whats the big deal...if your kids want to find porn they will buy a magazine, borrow one, find something online, trade pictures, steal/rent/buy movies...and most of the time if they are old enough to know what PORN is then it would be an attempt of futility to "keep" them from it....i think the whole issue is blown WAY out of proportion...its not a major problem and kinda reminds me of the US government tyrannical attempts to convince everyone marijuana is evil...like the commercials where the car is at the drive in and they are smoking weed and after they get their food the pull forward just to run over a poor innocent little kid on a bike....my question is WHAT THE HELL IS THE LITTLE KID DOING OUT ALONE ON A BIKE WITOUT PARENTS?! What do you think is gonna happen? Better to get hit by a car than kidnapped and never found! I would rather my kids be at home on the internet with the terrible danger of encountering porn while online than out in this crazy world with rapists, killers and weirdos....just my opinion..build on it if you wish
