'the' would hurt it , yes, in 99% of cases.
as a newbie i would suggest upgrading to platinum & the spend a few weeks reading this forum daily, including sales threads & learn as much as possible.
then consider a couple of registations. then get them appraised for free here.
(don't ever pay for appraisals as it is pretty much a scam)
don't be afraid to ask. someone will always help on this forum, normally in minutes!

Never prefix with 'the' if you can. I scan dropping domains daily and always bypass MOST stuff beginning with 'the'.

Congrats on the great recent sale by the OP.
I've allways assumed the big search engines ignore 'the' keyword as a 'common word', so best to use ANY other related keywords other than 'common words', to make up your domain name.
