i think 'word of mouth advertising' is more highly recognizable and used more often, not sure if i've ever heard 'marketing'

I think " word of mouth marketing" is replacing " word of mouth advertising".

I agree word of mouth advertising is the more popular term / phrase.

But the difference between the two is thinning IMHO. The overture #s are actually slightly better for " word of mouth marketing" than " word of mouth advertising". A couple of extensions are also taken for " word of mouth marketing".

It's a way of marketing .. about creating a buzz .. like viral marketing.
