Register.com took Register.com.mx for doing that very same thing. Makes the names worthless unless you are going to turn it into a wedding register or something.
Sexoffender register would be good, if you have the same problems in your country if as we have in the US.

In that case the trade marks were the words register and register.com which they violated by using the string in that order containing both peices of trademarked information...

Your probably right, but the word register represents an action or a verb "doing something" ---- unfortunate if their trademark would hold on a verb which represents doing something....
I wonder if anyone has a traemark on "BUY" as in my opinion it would be a similar case....
In this case where the word "register" represents and action and the tld represents what your buyinig, it would be a shame if they could take it away.....

The domain could be used, but not as a registrar for the domain business, which would be a salient trademark infringement against register.com.
But it could be used as a portal to all types of âregisterâ sites, including domain registration, car registration, boat registration, business registration, etc., and there would not be trademark issues.
Or it could be used as a âregisterâ site exclusively for one non-domain related thing, such as wedding registrations.
But in terms of value, the .tl (Timor-Leste) extension is rather weak, and thus the concern about trademark issues quickly becomes moot when the extension is focused on.

I was shocked when I got the email about the Register.com.mx WIPO, but I guess the guy should have responded. You can find my thread in Legal about that case.
Anyway, I think he should be fine. If they give him trouble, he should respond to the WIPO. Not let them walk over him.
BTW, that company that lost the Register.com.mx WIPO, also has http://domain.co.nz/. They are going to the same site.
