I have used Front page for the past few years , My time just ending on FP21003 Beta (as a beta tester) ..I like it but dont see point in shelling out another $110 retail to MS. I tried to go back to my FP200 but everything I created in FP2003 Beta is all screwed up in FP2000..

So Either I pay the ransom (every year) and upgrade (again) or I try something else..
Is their anything new on the market that is near FPs cpabilities without costing over $100 ..

any recommedations ? I cant just code I , FP has 3 work windows, HTML work area , a normal view (where you can edit with allthe graphics , text and tables etc in plain view) and then the preview window.

Is their any product mimicking FP that would be a good alternative?

Namo = $99
FP2003 = $110

Looks like a close call financially.
Maybe consider the cost in time and hassle to change to a new product as against using one you are already familiar with.
If you don't like things to be complicated FP is easy to use compared with many other programmes.
Add to that the fact that you now have some work done in FP2003 and find it to be not backwards compatible (that sucks!) and I would have thought FP is going to be your best choice.

If you want to learn html so you don't have to use those FP type programs, I would recommend htmlgoodies.com. Its a great site for beginners. Mind you, I haven't been there in a while, but its probably improved a lot. I learned the basics from them when I first started. If I can learn html, anyone can! :)

If you are really serious about web design and willing to spend more time on it, my advice is to get rid of FrontPage. Yes, DreamWeaver has come to be the industry standard for WYSIWYG software; but you still need to know HTML to make better websites. And it's simply one of the simplest "languages" (kind of, not really a language) to understand ... though not necessarily that easy to master, esp. with complicated design with nested tables or frames.

Macromedia Homesite is an excellent tool for writing code [including HTML] and is fully compatible with Dreamweaver. So you can do stuff in Dreamweaver [another excellent product] and then learn to manipulate the underlying code effectively.

Thanks NS, But I want to spend less time not more..I have no interest in learning any more html than I already know or need. I can go in and edit HTML in Namo , Frontpage or any editor IF I want to ..but I certainly dont want to design using html.

I have no artistic talent and that is the backbone for webdesign.you have to have the talent. I leave that upto the professionals ...they can design me templates and I adapt these to suit my 'my "thing" ..adding the correct content and feeding the SE's.

With that in mind I dont need the high power of Dreamweaver and I certainly dont need to spend my days punching in HTML code in a html editor..

the Frontpage , Namo type editors are perfect for people like me.. from one page I have 3 "views" an EDIT view where I can manually edit HTML when necessay , DESIGN view is the main "working view" I can add content and see it's relation to all the graphics , I can add tables with a click of the mouse as well as Java scripts , images , split cells , nested tabkes , CSS, set spacing , fonts color evrything with just a few clicks of the mouse.. No ..I am afraid you wont ever see me dropping the ease and huge time savings these programs offer in exchange to sit and type the html code out..nah lol (And PREVIEW Mode..I can see how the site looks like in any browser )

I worry about 2 things; content and search engines.. design I'll leave to your pros and purist .. I am impressed with anyone that has the patience to code ..I just dont have it in me to do that.

That said..I have decided on Namo.. it's working really well ...

Thanks everyone for your input .. !

BTW .. MRwebname ..Namo allows downloading the education version for $49..you just dont get the CD / Intruction book .
