Didn't make a dime. Let all of them drop except FOP.xxx which is Free Online Porn. Didn't see many sales either.

I only have one, CountryGirls, and not much to report about it. Might go for a white label site. When the new gtlds are rolled out people might get more used to these alternate extensions. I did notice a few decent .xxx sales throughout the past year.

I haven't had one request to develop a .xxx and haven't invested in any myself.

Still not as bad as .tel

I'd rather own a .mobi than a .tel :p

If they were the last two domains on earth, that is.

Keep an eye on:

http://registrarstats.com/TLDDomainCounts.aspx

when the .xxx domains which are not renewed finally drop from the zone file (should be in a few weeks). I think most prospective new gTLD registry operators are working under the assumption that 70% to 80% of domains would be renewed annually (and even higher renewal rates for the "prime" domains). I believe those assumptions might have been very optimistic. It wouldn't surprise me if more than half the .xxx domains don't get renewed.

I think it will be a much higher drop rate than 70% especially with the renewals still over $100 a year.

At $10 a reg they might need 70% renewals.

At $100 a reg, I imagine they need less. I could only get it down to around $70 with a Godaddy coupon.

I think .xxx will be ok for the good to great adult keywords and phrases, but after that what do you use it for? Same with the coming new gtlds, each will have a small pool of keywords that work well, then it drops of a cliff. Except for .web, which I think will do best.

If they only had 40,000 registrations, their total registration revenues @ $50/yr per domain (recall that $10 of the $60 wholesale fee goes to IFFOR.org) would be $2 million/yr. Afilias, their back-end provider, would need to get paid out of that. If they have any "pay for placement" programs in place, i.e. marketing programs, with registrars, that would add to their expenses. Additional costs would include staff salaries, and fees paid for their malware scanning. They also face large legal bills due to the Manwin lawsuit.

It'll be very interesting to see what happens. They could drop prices, conceivably, as a strategy. I doubt they would invest millions to attempt to raise the profile of the TLD again, but that'd be another strategy.

Around 12 months ago I purchased 15 .XXX domains as a little test.
I paid $79.99 per domain so my total investment was around $1,200 USD.

One month later I got one offer of $100 on one of my .XXX domains which I declined.
Three months later I sold one of my .XXX domains on SEDO for $1,995 USD. (minus sedo commission I got around $1,695 USD transferred to my bank account)

After that no more offers or sales.

So basically in total I did make $495 profit but quite frankly I'm dropping my other 14 .XXX domains. The little interest there was in the beginning is completely gone now.

I personally do not own any .xxx and in general my rule is not to buy any of the new extensions...(notice i never said never)lol

I was bitten by the .mobi so it's : bad news/good news/ bad news

bad news- I bought too many
good news - I don't have any more
bad news- the damn .mobi made you register 2 years at a time in the start (greedy and sneaky) :frusty:

hopefully new members can learn from this...I wish when I was buying .mobi someone would have told me to stop. *to be honest they did ...I didn't listen ouch!!!

thanks to Adam and all those who post threads like these. Showing us bad outcomes can help us all, rather then the usually pump and dump stuff. Would be good to hear a few others chime in *hint hint
