Personally I think YP sounds stupid. Not a good choice at all.

It sounds like Why Pee?

Nintindo was similarily criticized when they released the WII that sounds like "wee" ... and yet they've sold many millions of units.

A more pressing problem with short acronyms, especially two letter and less, is they often lack any meaning to most people with some rare exceptions.

I know of numerous companies that have tried rebranding (as opposed to just redirection use only) themselves with a two or three letter acronym and later drop that idea in favor of a longer name that people better recognize.

wouldn't yellow.com be better ?
I would like to know the details of this deal.
Whom contacted whom?
were there negotiations?
who is the seller?

Interesting.

Yellow.com, far better imo. Great sale but they should have bought Yellow.com (do they already own it?)

there you go www.yellow.com ;)

btw, unfortunately they cant get 'y.com' when icann release single letter .coms, as yahoo have already tm'ed 'y.com'

by purchasing yp.com, they can use it to re-brand yellow pages and soon all those typos will be worthless

that's how you spend money to make money

Absolutely.

Just a drop in the bucket of their advertising budget I'm sure.

This should elevate the value of all other LL.coms.

A similar company (might actually be the same one) uses Yell.com for the UK, I think that's better than YP.com personally, it has meaning as well as being a shortened version of 'Yellow Pages'.

YellowPages.com could have gotten this domain for much cheaper price if they did not reveal their identity during the negotiation

net necessarily

dont forget the sellers were losing a website and business not just a domain
the fact yellowpages were only after domain doesnt matter. they of course get the value of the traffic and links too as was related

its a good sale and hopefully should get some publicity , after all when everything else is bombing, big domain sales are still happening. wish the media would latch onto this more
