I would highly recommend 1&1. There isn't a cheaper way to register a dot com domain anywhere. There hosting plans are also extremely good. When you have over 3.4 million customers you can offer your customers more yet still charge them less money.

Thanks, since im Australian this is obviously a big factor to me.

Hopefully they will offer the service worldwide sooner than later. Then you would be able to take advantage of what they have to offer.
