I wrote this little article you can post in your blogs..:
2 Questions: Are .COM domains still reigning over .NET domains? How´s that top domain name sold doing today?...
Have you ever asked yourself: How is that domain name that got sold for thousands or even million of dollars doing today?, Who is better the .coms or the .nets?. Yes, I usually ask that all the time, so I went ahead and did a quick research on last year's top 10 domain name sales as well as this year's top 10 sales and found out this:
Year 2007
1. Porn.com = $9.5 Million = Became an adult video youtube like site.
2. Computer.com = $2.5 Million = Parked.
3. Senior.com = $1.8 Million = Became a pointer of SeniorFriendFinder.com.
4. Tandberg.com = $1.5 Million = Became a telecommunications company.
5. Scores.com = $1.25 Million = Became a Score Board for Sports Gamblers.
6. Vista.com = $1.25 Million = Became a pointer of Vista Printing.
7. Chinese.com = $1.120 Million = Parked.
8. Guy.com = $1 Million = Parked.
9. Topix.de = $1 Million = Became Topix Information Systems, a German firm.
10. Poker.de = $960,000 = Became a micro site for Poker enthusiasts.
TOTALS for 2007:
Top 10 average Sale Per Domain: $2.188.000
Domains Developed: 4 or 40%
Domains Parked: 3 or 30%
Domains Pointing: 2 or 20%
Domains Micro site: 1 or 10%
====

2. DataRecovery.com = $1.65 Million = Became the pointer to EssDatarecovery.
3. Cruises.co.uk = $1.1 Million = Became the pointer to: Cruise.co.uk.

9. Affiliate.com = $579K = Site / Domain not configured.
10. Tell.com = $400K = Site / Domain not configured.
TOTALS for 2008 so far:
Top 10 average Sale Per Domain: $1.685.400 (77% Price Decrease from 2007)
Domains Developed: 4 or 40%
Domains Pointing: 2 or 20%
Domains not Developed: 4 or 40%
====
One interesting situation is that although there was a global 77% price decrease from domains sold in 2007 vs 2008 the .NET extension did not decrease as much as the .com extension. If you take the top 5 .COM sales on 2007 and 2008 VS the top 5 .NET sales in the same period, the .COMs had a price decrease of 88% VS a 68% price decrease on .NETs. That means that across the board the .NET out reigned over .COM by 20% plus valuation from 2007 until now.
Last, on a global comparison the other extensions like .org .info .tv and .us performed at even a lower numbers than the .COM and .NET extensions.
