does this seem a bit short to anyone else? Does this mean we need to get new code from CJ every 45 days for every banner for every site? This seems a bit much and its obvious as to why they aren't longer.

You don't need to get new banners.

What this means is that a visitor to your site clicks on a link, when they arrive at the destination site a cookie is set that has 45 days duration. Any purchases they make at the destination site while that cookie is active is credited to your affiliate account.

Note that 45 is the default but companies using CJ can set the cookie duration to something else if they want to.
