Hi,

I'm planning on developing a full service network consists of 10+ websites. I choose the prefix MyBest to give the network a personalized taste. The domains in the network are:

1- MyBestPC.com
2- MyBestCar.com
3- MyBestHelp.com
4- MyBestHotel.com
5- MyBestGames.com
6- MyBestDomain.com
7- MyBestSoftware.com

There are another 10+ domains in the network, but the above ones are ready for developing.

I'm a new member, I'm not a insider. I just want your appraisals for this network as domain names, and as a developed network. Please let me know the reasons behind your appraisal. Thnx

Lwgik ;)

Sounds like a lot of work. Value will be determined by the level of traffic you are able to build, and by the level of functionality you are able to incorporate.

Good luck!

not much, but if you have a bunch of the 'my best' names - and you develop them like you are describing, it could be an amazing project. It is hard to appraise these names now, but I see how they could become an amazing series of websites

thank you FrontRow and GT Web. I already started developing the network and as you said it will need good hard work and advertisinf before it becomes a valuable network. Thank you for the comments.

"My best" doesn't really work as a prefix. Sorry.

GiantDomains,

Can you tell me why "My Best" doesn't work as a prefix. Best describes the beest service and/or product. The "My" gives it a personalized touch. What do you think is better: Bestcar.com or MyBestCar.com

I know that BestCar.com is short name, but I think that MyBestCar.com gives the customer a personalized touch telling him/her it's HIS/HER best car. Same goes for the Hotel, PC, Games, Software...etc

I would really value your input as well as the others. Thank you.

Doesn't sound right. My best car? What kind of site is that?? You will go broke trying to create a network. Many companies have tried it, but have figured out that one name that provides all the services mentioned is better than 100 names. Imagine if amazon.com was actually 1000 domain names, like mybestdvd, mybestshirts, etc...

Good luck.

GiantDomains,

You can't combine different services in one website. For example, it's not logical to provide domain name registration services with all its tools and services along with a hotel reservation system in the same website. Or you can't combine a Games website with car dealing in one website. The idea of having different domains is that each domain name (website) will be specialized in one service/field. This give the website a space to breath and can cover most of that industry service. A games website like MyBestGames.com will provide detailed review about PC,PS1,PS2,XBOX,DreamCast, Nintendo,..etc games, with help guides and free download and games ordering service. You'll need a full website to cover all these services.

Amazon.com started as a book website then expanded its service to DVDs, Audio books, electronics. But they still formed a network of websites which are:

1- Amazon.com the main site.
2- AmazonDVDs.com: their DVD section.
3- AmazonBooks.com: their books section.
4- AmazonMusic.com: Their music section.
.
.
.
etc

Of course the design of their network is a central website (Amazon.com) with pointers to its different services, but they still a network!

You said many companies tried creating networks of websites and failed. Do you remember any specific cases or examples. It's always nice to learn from others faults. Thank you GiantDomains.

I remember a huge multi-million dollar campaign, including tv and radio, for a company called p's and q's. You actually had to put "p" before a keyword, and "q" after. ex: pshoesq.com, pgamesq.om, and their slogan was "you gotta know your p's and q's".... Part of the dot-com bubble.

Sincerely, good luck :)

"My best"... Don't like it. It doesn't sound good. Sounds and looks cheesy IMO.

:D I appreciate your personal opinion, but I was looking for more "scientific" reason. I for example don't like ditech.com or eNom but that doesn't change its value ;)

Thank you

I totally agree with GD!
Why have 10+ websites when you can use one generic name with subdomains and paths that describe the other services and products each of the 10+ websites would offer???
For example, the generic domain name "clickhere.to" could basically be used for any product or service, e.g., clickhere.to/trade, email.clickhere.to, clickhere.to/MyBestPC

I see no benefits in having 10+ websites when you can use just one!
What benefits do you see?

I don't see much value in any of the domains you posted!

I disagree with you Sandra. Branding subdomains is a very hard thing to do. You can't market clickhere.to/trade and then market clickhere.to/mybestPC. I personally never saw an AD for a website with a subdomain or a back slash :)

It a lot easier to market and brand MyBestPc.com and MyBestTrade.com than marketing and brandling xxxx.com/mybestpc and xxxx.com/mybesttrade.

Another reason is the kind of services you are providing. You CANNOT combine in one website car trading services, PC upgrades and purchases, domain name services, games review and download, Hotel and airfare reservation, technical support services, freeware and shareware library,...etc. It's kind of stupid to have all these totally different kind of services under ONE domain name!. It looks unprofessional and makes non sense.

Other reason for having multiple websites is technical support. When you need to change a database, run some manitance on your server, upgrade a CGI script, install a new software on the server, you will have to take down the whoole domain name (since you are taking down the server that hosts it). But when you have different domain names on different servers, the problems of one website doesn't affect the whole network.

That's my opinion. What do you think?

You have some good points! But I would prefer to invest my time and money in one really good portal-like domain than 10+ iffy sites.

Yahoo! combines "car trading services, PC upgrades and purchases, domain name services..." which are products and services you previously mentioned that "cannot [be] combined in one website".
I think Yahoo! is very professional and profitable.
FYI, they use subdomains and paths considerably:
http://search.yahoo.com/
http://autos.yahoo.com/

Good luck with your venture!

Thank you Sandra, but Yahoo is site number 1 on the internet. It's better for them to include all their service in one website (the famous Yahoo.com) than starting another websites. Of course in there case one domain name is a lot better than 10. But in my case (I'm a "small tiny guy" compared to Yahoo), I don't have the amazing infrastructure that Yahoo has, so I think it will be better to seperate each of my services in a sperate website.

Thank you for your comments :)
