On average how long does it take for the adsense code to optimize with proper listings?

If they review your site and don't like it, you might get stuck with Charity Ads for a longgggg time.

When I was approved, I saw relevant ads within 12 hours.

DCG: If you check your webserver logs, you'll see visits from Google's AdSense bot, which parses the page's content to figure out what ads to display. Look for a line like:

64.68.87.55 - - [15/Aug/2003:15:41:34 -0400] "GET /index.html HTTP/1.0" 200 1168 "-" "Mediapartners-Google/2.1 (+http://www.googlebot.com/bot.html)"

in your logs (i.e. the Mediapartners bot is the AdSense one).

Until that hits, it's girl guide cookie ads. ;) If you start sending huge amounts of traffic, and they review the site, they might manually set it to charity ads if they don't like the content, apparently.

Just as a followup, make sure you don't have a robots.txt for the domain, otherwise that might block the Mediapartners bot, and you'll never get content-relevant ads.

Or, if you do have a robots.txt, make sure it's only blocking bad bots, and not the Google one.

I think its when the google bot ( sent via adsense ) spiders your site.

Congrats on putting the google adsense on the front - quite hard to do that with vbulletin and google's code.

Usually they optimize within a day or two, however with some php based sites using query strings I noticed they take much longer, if they do at all.

I converted a site over to search engine friendly URLs (same content) and it optimized the ads within a few hours.
