Hi,

Recently got an offer for about 200 USD for capitar, com on Sedo. I've owned this domain since 2006 and it's one of my better names.
What do you think, is it too low? Should I send it to Sedo auction?

Thanks very much for taking your time, I appreciate all advice.
Sincerely,
Jonas

It really is worth reg fee to a reseller.

So the question is whether you think $200 is enough for a sale?

$200 does not seem much to me if it's a name i like...so i would do a counter offer ..an auction will not get you a higher offer.

Good luck!

theinvestor, thanks for your advice. Yes, I would have to really think it over if I could part with the name for $200 or if I should make a counter offer. I've owned it since 2006, therefore I'd possible want a little more, but will think about it a couple of hours more before making an decision.

Best regards,
Jonas

Personally, I'd initiate the auction, that will give you a better shot in reaching TRUE MARKET VALUE, whatever it is, since it will be way more exposed to other domainers.

Just my 0.02.

Agree. Start the auction!

The domain is only valuable to this guy, don't expect any other bids on an auction. Check google, this thread now ranks on #1 for the word and there are less than 30k results. So chances are you'll never get another buyer for this one. Unless of course you see something really special in it..

Just try to get the maximum you can from the buyer. If he offered $200, he'd probably pay up to $300-500, possibly more. So I'd counter with ~$1200. Could also counter with $3-4K if you feeling lucky ;)

Yea, why the heck would you start an auction on this name? Waste of time. Just accept it or counter offer.

Thanks everyone for your replies and advices, I really appreciate it.

I'm leaning towards starting an auction for it, maybe I wouldn't get more for it but there's probably a small chance it would and I have no problem with waiting.

Thanks again,
Jonas

if you counter with a ridiculous price, you risk getting the buyer cancelling their offer.

I know that when I was a buyer and offering for a domain, the owner counters with a ridiculous price like 5 million USD on Sedo, the first thing I do is cancelling the negotiation because it implies an unreasonable expection from the seller.

Oversee Domain Management registered the .net of the name this month I just noticed. Do you know what this does mean? Does Oversee register only for themselves or for clients also?

Thanks Allanh for your reply, yes I'm afraid of scaring away the buyer if I counter too high.

Thanks again.
Sincerely,
Jonas

Just found out from another thread here at DNF that Oversee sometimes registers domains people searched for, which probably is the case here.

Anyways, I've sent the domain to auction. I might not get more for it, but I think it's worth a try.

Thanks again for all the advices I've received.
Sincerely,
Jonas

As some members have pointed out, it would be sad if the potential buyer just cancels the thread after the counteroffer. IMO, in this case the potential value of showing the domain to more people is higher than the extra proceeds one can get from a long bargaining thread (if not cancelled).

BTW, one of my most interesting sales started at $160 and later became a pissing contest between 3 more buyers. I wasn't expecting that much interest, but it ended up above 2.5K. So I really DON'T think it's a waste of time.

Varlin, thanks again for the reply. I agree with you and did send the domain to auction, I think it's worth taking a chance since that's the only way Sedo allows you to start an auction yourself and getting further exposure.
$160 bid up to 2.5k, that must have been exciting to watch!
If that would happen to my domain, I would be happy for a year! :)

Sincerely,
Jonas

I don't think that putting this name on auction was a good move , in your place I would rather counter 500-800 instead of sending it to an auction as I believe it will not attract higher bids.

Anyway wish you luck with it

good luck, at least with an auction you'll know the domain was exposed to lots of people.

can you set a BIN for a domain in auction at Sedo?

Completely agree. Brandable domains do not do well in auctions. Instead of getting more money from this end user. You are now settling for a mere $200.

Good luck though.

Thanks again for your replies and the good luck wishes.

You might be right that it wasn't a good move pushing the domain to auction, only time will tell...1 day & 17 hours in this case :)
Either way, I would just have to look at it as "learning money" :)

Hugegrowth, I actually don't know if it's possible to set a bin in a Sedo auction. I only had the option of sending the domain to auction with the offer as the starting bid.

Best regards,
Jonas

Mulligan, thanks for your reply. I'm now posting as you requested since it's less than 40 minutes left of the auction and highest bid is at 153 euro. Just type in Capitar at sedo.com and you'll be able to find it, then you could follow how the bidding progresses.. I sure know I will :)

Thanks again and I'm holding my thumbs for a nice sale of the domain!

Best regards,
Jonas
