For Sale All Pool grabs now go into second phase?

Maybe it's just the names I am chasing but has anyone noticed that ALL the Pool grabs go into the second phase (silent bid) auction? I never just win the domain.

Funny too, I seem to be the high bidder right away at $60. And, funny too, that I don't raise my bid and I am the winner at $60? (As a matter of protest, I VERY RARELY raise my bid because I don't want to support the stupid silent bid greedy business model.)

Hmmm, where are all those other bidders???

Also, notice that Pool always posts that there are xx,xxx Domains For Sale? Well, they are mixing in the hundreds or even thousands of .pw DOMAIN SPONSORSHIPS which are not DOMAINS FOR SALE into that inflated number.

Anyone get caught in a .pw scam? Wait, let me pull back a bit on that word scam. I don't want to get into any legal trouble. Let's call it a "scheme" or "system" or "MLM opportunity".

You say that as if there's a choice... No choice... just a "choice" to play to win, or not. All the people saying "I'm not using Pool anymore", are added opportunities to the people who say, "Man, I hate this new system, but let me 'vote' my conscience by giving them more money. Hey, I'm surprised no one else bid on this. Cool." I'll always reject this faulty argument that we currently enjoy all this "choice" in the drop market. Bah... Just more people getting a shot at making more or less money performing the exact same service (--and sometimes getting paid for performing NO service, that or they get to hold onto your money indefinitely). Don't take your eye off the ball or you'll miss it.

Don't always think you're the only bidder. NameAdmin is notorious for coming up behind you and snatching a domain away that you thought you had in the bag. I woke up 20 minutes late on one the other day (they appear to have shortned the second phase). I am quite afraid to put a proxy bid in at Pool simply because I don't trust them.....

But try it (If youwant to lose $60).

Pick the crappiest name you can imagine thats dropping. Backorder it at pool.
it will still go through the sealed phase process.
It's happened to me because I backorderd a name that meant something to me personally, but I am sure no one else really would care for it.
Just didnt want to take a chance.

And there's no reason you should. Reputation aside, its not as if there's a domain drop service inspector to make sure everything is on the up and up with those audit trails. Conspiracy theories enjoy the spot in counter culture where they rarely ever rise to a level of public outcry unless there's hard evidence... even then, in a niche industry? Eh. 'd be nice if we had some suggestions on injecting some accountability into these processes.

I've heard that strategy before, and in my opinion, it will continue to be flawed. As long as the name is known publically, you can NEVER be sure someone else didn't want it. The ONLY way I'd imagine there being some integrity, is if this was simply like eBay... with real user names being shown, and how many transactions each user name has made next to the name. --But of course, this would HORRIFY a lot of people. But, this cload and dagger stuff has got to go in my opinion. It is more hurtful than helpful to things. Even if their "past history" only showed the "DATES" of past purchases, it would help.

If I lose a SnapNames auction to an "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa", I'd like to know just a little more so I don't feel as irritated. Offer post registration privacy protection... I don't care, just lose the uber-anonymity.

I think the sealed bid system discourages shillers because it is no fun. You place your bid then forget about it for three days, come back to see if you have cleared through, then spend a whole day figuring out who the only other dick is. And to all extent, it could only be shiller himself. How boring....

and when you finally win the name, then you wait for the login and password
from a registrar that may or may not be based in the us and have english
speaking support. they may not even have a web site. don't worry though,
it's not pool's problem anymore, you're a winner and you're SOL.

I've had some scary experiences with Pool. The hammered my credit card once for 3 domains and billed me 5 times for each name. The card maxed out after a while and when I rang my bank they said that pool was still trying every day to bill my card.

I contacted Pool and they did refund the money (I lost out on exchange rates though), but it did scare me enough not to use them again though.

They also had the cheek to close my account because they said they were unable to bill my card

Pool recently billed me for a name I never backordered, and had never appeared on my backorder list. They REFUSE to issue a refund for their error or even explain why it was never on my backorder list.

It just so happens that on the date they claimed to make the backorder, I was at one of the few placed on earth with NO internet access, in a Mayan temple in Guatemala. I asked for the IP address that *I* supposedly made the backorder from, and the refused to provide it.

Just a clear case of credit card fraud against a customer, gee, why would I be upset about that?

I use my CCs for so many different regsitrars and backorders services, that I dont bother checking each individual order...

I told Duke about 2 months ago that Pool would revert back to their old system by
Mid/late November. I was wrong.

Their revenue has to be down by 80% compared to last year.

There is no logical reason why they have not reverted back except for one thing

Does pool give you a history of how many bidders there were and what they bid if you win the auction? I bid $500 on a domain name and I don't think it was nescessary since I didnt see any other bid history, are all auctions like this? This is my first win
