alternativeenergy.com is at $10099.
Any thoughts on the final number?

It probably doesnt get a lot of type in traffic but developed has enormous potential.
With fuel prices SKY HIGH and new hybrid vehicles becoming more and more popular and the ever increasing tension in the middle east this topic will continue to pick up steam.

Potential is only a matter of perception.

If the internet was around in the 70's this name would be over 100k.. if it was the 80's and junkbonds.com was dropping it would likely fetch a mil.

Quick, dust off homemadestill.com - we can start selling plans for people to make stills so they can brew their own gasoline from corn. Better hurry before the next terorism threat though, because thats when backyardbombshelter.com and survivalrations.com start to peak. All cyclical IMO.

Quick search of Google news from this week:
>>Bush planning alternative energy initiative<<
Type it in or type in something about oil and peruse the results.

And it isnt the 70's and everything is much different now. And we do have the internet.

Alternative energy is all over the news where I live (USA)and is absolutely huge.

My town now has solar powered street lights.
A Tech. school completed near me recently has opted for solar power.

Global warming is again at the forefront with the warmest winter day in history.
Ice caps melting at alarming rates.
Where do you live? Arent they hyping hybrid cars there too?

It is not just gas prices anymore but anytime something as much of a staple as fuel rises in price so does the publics awareness of anything surrounding it.

We are now at a time when alternative energy isn't something to think about for now and implement in the future as it was in the 70's. It is now the future and we're not talking about hybrid cars but making them.

January 27, 2006 - "New York Republican Governor George Pataki says this will be a green year for the Empire State. The Governor will propose a plan to get alternative fuels at fuel stations across the state."

Your examples are not even in the same realm but if prohibition were implemented I am glad you wouldnt be vying for stills.com.

It's not rocket science. Just read the news from last week. It is a big topic and unfortunately we are at a time when alternative energy isn't just something to talk about. It's uses are being implemented and need to be as fuel prices are not going to correct back down to $1.25 a gallon...ever.

The auction has unfortunately passed my limit at just under $14k. A steal IMO.
Wonder if it will rise during the last hour.

Not great for parking but developed...a monster!

$50,138.00 and it's not over yet!

This one's a fight between vaxis and dagroup. Other bidders stopped at 15K :-)

Wow! We are truly beginning to see the rise of value on quality generic .COMs with or without any ppc traffic. Keep in mind these buyers are not end-users either!

A couple of the last few auctions I was in I think I was against end users.
I agree though that the prices of quality generics is definitely rising. Even good, brandable domains are into the low to mid $xxxx range. Name which have low or no ovt. score.

The original owner probably found it useless, and yes it is surprising how people are seeing castles in the clouds. Everything is potentially "huge" if you look at the Internet multiples, except that in real life, things don't work that way.

A plain vanilla descriptive name does not mean you will be able to make $1 from it (except from all that fraud PPC), let alone "corner" the market. People are just attributing too much into a asci based character string.

I received an e-mail from webnamesolution.com 7 days ago offering me this domain for US$199.95.

I assume it is a scam as the domain was already in pending delete when they wrote to me.

The old owner never put up a site. It Was parked back in 99' and redirected to some half ass site which didnt have anything to do with alternative energy in Feb. of last year.
She didnt try to do anything with it. This is the case a lot of the times when really good domains drop.

Fortunately in real life things do work out that way for those of us willing to put in the time and effort. There are those who do and those who wish they did.

Parked this name most likely would earn some money.
Becoming a retailer/distributor for alternative energy products would be a no brainer.

Mole, are you saying that investing in and developing a generic domain name into a viable business is not worth doing? I'm not sure if I understand your entire post.

i think mole is saying a name is just a name. it may be a great start, but it may not make you anything...

pretty amazing. paying $50k for "potential" is nuts in my book. sure it's a great domain, but $15k-$20k is risky, $50k is a bit on the nuts side. then again, the guys who probably picked it up for $50k have several million to play around with.

I am pretty sure that was the theme of a Dukes of Hazzard episode. Uncle Jesse brewed up a special batch of his 'shine and it worked quite well.
