I had a chance to buy this a few years ago, but I thought his price was too high or they would go after a trademark.

I guess I shouldn't have passed.

Risk/Reward, the change of registrant would of or could have been a good reason to lose it Adam, it's one thing for him to have owned it, prove you had good faith ;)

On an aside, I was really close to pulling the trigger and buying this before the show hit the air.

The guy that owned it was in the UK.

It's not out of the question that he/she is forwarding the domain to avoid an assured C&D and or UDRP...

Think about it...how else would you hold on to ownership of this domain? Wait until the series has ended and then you'll have a much easier time monetizing it. As a super-pervasive brand right now, it would be very easy for Fox to obtain the domain in my opinion. So why would they fork over a large sum to redirect it?

"American Idol" can be a generic term - American based idols can include the White House, the Washington Monument, Mount Rushmore, Golden Gate Bridge, etc..

As long as you stick to the generic meaning, an Idol:

–noun
1.
an image or other material object representing a deity to which religious worship is addressed.
2.
Bible .
a.
an image of a deity other than god.
b.
the deity itself.
3.
any person or thing regarded with blind admiration, adoration, or devotion: Madame Curie had been her childhood idol.
4.
a mere image or semblance of something, visible but without substance, as a phantom.
5.
a figment of the mind; fantasy.
6.
a false conception or notion; fallacy.

that represents America.

If the change was recent then I have a feeling that Fox realizes that Americal Idol is on its way out and not worth the purchase / asking price.

for how much in the year 2006?

You can still register AmericanMidol.com and get two UDRP's with one registration :D

you did right to pass Adam
that's a large chunk of change and may have lost for zero and no guarantee they would have paid anything near that amount, no matter what show earns

xfactor have never bothered to get xfactor.co.uk and just use itv.com/xfactor

i know we hate it as domainers but tbh does the job i guess

anyway the new americanidol owner, Keith, is pretty scary

(on a sidenote, the girl he is talking to at start is , lovely)
