I was in a shoot out with another guy just now for a very normal non-descript name and had to fight to $8k just to get it. Oh the pain!

Thought it would swing in at under $2k easy for this type of name. Geeshus, have you guys even had the same situation, needing to go to painful levels to get auction names? :-(

It's all about pride and macho-ness. Each bidder doesn't want to lose the fight yet the ultimate loser is the winner.

I have become the "winner" for a long time now.

Well was it that good of name to fight that high for? obviously it was, so then what is the problem? If it wasn't worth that then why did you bid, and if it was worth that I can see why there was such a comeptition.

I think he did. Congrats neverthless. Never look back in your business decisions. No regrets. Learn from your mistakes and get on with it for the future.

The Google Ads are always so revealing on Mole's posts. I don't know which is more appealing -- the Mole Control Products for "Professional mole trapping kit Video and 2 scissor-type traps", or the idea of "Download[ing] Moles".

At any rate, I think Sarcle hit the nail on the head. If it was worth 8k to you, the idea that it was worth just under $8k to someone else should not come as a surprise. Nonetheless, I certainly agree with your lament. It seems impossible to snag a good domain at "far below retail" prices on the auction any more. They are certainly approaching retail pricing, as more and more people become aware of the expiring domain racket.

Most I spent on a "must have" domain was $3100

I had to think about that for a second, but I like it, nice quote =)

Guess who the ultimate winner is? Pool.com, Snapnames, Enom etc. Unless of course your domain becomes Ebay.com. I guess these auctions are good for determining how bad you really want it and how confident you are in the game plan.

glad you could add that =) Really, thanks!

I believe what you stated is that the name must be worth what you paid for it. I would have to agree with gariben, that people get caught up in auctions and overbid for what they believe is their own property. Its hard not to take it personal when you have been outbid or exceed your predetermined limit, but I'm sure everyone here is guilty of that on occasion.

As an investor in any medium whether it be stocks, bonds, gold, currency, or domains. If you over bid because of spite or pride then it is your own dumbass fault.
It's money and investment it's never personal and if you let it then you will go down with the ship.....

Sorry.....
Sarcle.

lol no need to apolagize, everyone is entitled to their opinion. All I am saying is that I may have a predetermined limit in mind before the auction, but that is easily forgetten in the heat of battle. If you have the smarts to walk away when that limit is reached, congrats =)

Actually it is not an opinion it is a fact, your investments are only worth what they can sell for if you buy gold now at 800 an ounce then you just made a big mistake.....
Same with bonds stocks and funds, along with domains......

Hey mods I don't believe this post belongs in this forum, it can go in gen discussions, but there is no expired domain being touted here.........

It's very easy for you to compare what we are talking about to the value of gold which pretty much has a standardized value. Domains on the other hand fluctuate. One particular name may be worth a fortune to 1 person and worth nothing to another. If you claim to know the exact value of every domain, I once again congratulate you. You have earned a spot in my signature =)

I don't want an argument but, gold doesn't fluctuate? lets see hmm in the last 24 hours it has fluctuated almost 7 dollars in the last year it has fluctuated almost one hundred dollars...there is no standard to any investment. No matter what medium.
I never claimed anything if the person that made the post felt he spent to much then they most likely did.......
I have not made a statement to contridict.....

I'm not talking about the general value of domains, but yet the value according to different individuals. The value of gold does not fluctuate from individiual to individual, whereas the value of a domain does. Gold has a standardized value which does fluctuate, but my gold is worth no more than your gold regardless of the overall value of gold. The overall value of domains may change, but for each domain, each market, and each individual there is a different value.

Anyway, this is going nowhere. It was good for an argument while it lasted and I had fun =) I guess your smartass comment kind of set me off, or I just took it the wrong way. Regardless, I'm not posting in this thread anymore. No hard feelings.
