I agree completely, empty space is a closet for all sorts of cool stuff. I'm law abiding, compassionate, and I still got room for a tennis racket and an old BB gun.

Well, we all know 99% of the wars that have happened are all due to religious beliefs. I am not athiest, I do believe there is a god, but wars and death over god is plan stupid!

Only a fool puts limits on "possibility". Mathematically speaking, think about the chain of events that had to occur to put you in front of your keyboard here and now. And I'm not just talking about the semen marathon we all placed first out of millions in, I'm talking about from the formation of the universe forward. Considering that, are you actually going to tell me what's probable, and what isn't?

hey man, death by water, disease, even Florida alligators is NATURAL. Thats the way it was meant to be. Death through war is NOT. Atom bombs and dynamite don't exist in nature, water, disease, and alligators do.

And btw, World War II did have a HUGE religious basis. Why do you think the holocaust happened?
Even the Vietnam war had a religious basis...as democratic people, we didn't like Godless communism. So we wage wars...

To me, being a complete, absolute atheist is just as bad as being a religious fundamentalist. I used to be that kind, but I realized thats being just plain stupid. Its better to leave all options open.

We still know less than 10% about the workings and capabilities of the human brain. Unless we know about the rest 90%, its stupid to rule out ANY possibility (yes, even ghosts and tooth fairies). As I said, I'm an agnostic, not an atheist, because I know that there are certain questions that cannot be answered, yet, without resorting to a higher power hypothesis. But I don't believe that even if there is a higher power, he has any influence on me, you or anyone else. I'm responsible for my own actions, not some higher power.

Are you kidding me man? The Holocaust was a secret for a large part of World War II, why else were the Germans hiding evidence of the atrocities up until days before surrendering? I live in Poland, I've been to Oświęcim several times, and I've seen the German bombed gas chambers at Birkenau. The Holocaust was NOT the basis for World War II, but one chapter of the wide scale death and destruction that the conflict caused. There were Poles 3 miles away from various death camps that didn't even know the atrocities were being committed. These facts are well documented.

Vietnam was also a religious conflict? That's just plain ridiculous.

Sashas, if you're so desperate to link religion with war, why don't we talk about the Crusades, or explore what the Teutonic Knights did while in Poland. After we walk through various religious conflicts throughout history the world over, we can compare casualty figures for both religious and non religious wars. Trust me, the results are pretty staggering.

This is actually a huge controversy among the 'new atheists' like Richard Dawkins who some think pushes atheism like it were a cult. On the other end, there have been polls showing that a larger percentage of leading scientists do actually adhere to a religious faith, than not. Surprisingly, they are able to separate their faith from their science.

I think it just further proves - 'nobody knows anything'.

In the backwoods of Oregon there are only two religions, Ford and Chevy. Ultra tight pants fits into that some how as well.
