So let's say ****** & I are the only bidders for 2 names:

****** & ********

... how do we do this?

**** - You can have the **** if you'll let me have the *****. Deal?

EDIT: names removed; suggestion of bids are for entertainment purposes only :) Void where prohibited; your mileage may very; do not remove this tag.

More and more people are taking part in drop bidding.
I often see foolish and ignorant people infrequently although have taken part in war from y2k.
They don't grasp actuality value of domain.
However, I think that have better take part in 'auction' in extent that can amount to profit each other.

Folks might not be aware that there are antitrust laws that prohibit "bid rigging", collusion, etc. For a primer, see:

http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/public/guidelines/201436.pdf

or use Google. I would strongly urge folks to be more careful in their public musings, and some of you might want to go and edit your past posts.

I would tend to agree with bid rigging as if people were trying to run up a bid on eBay and were trying to swindle money. If people collectivelly agree not to run up bids on each other what would be illegal about that?

I agree with George.

This discussion should be curtailed.

There does not appear to be a way to not convince another person to agree without some form of compensation. They will not do it "just to be nice". Therefore it may be in violation of this "antitrust" law.

Snapnames is gracious enough to at least let us see who is bidding against us like on Ebay. I feel a LOT more comfortable bidding high in a senario where I know I am not being jipped with blind or random numbered phantom bidders. I very rarely order names at Pool or paticipate in blind auctions.

What do you mean a "few times", clem? Prices get too high on a very regular basis. Why do you think Yun Ye ditched the dropcatch game? When you have to pay $18k for a bludy typo of hiway, its time to cash out.

There comes a point to where it's better to take your money and run while you can. A lot of people when they gamble do not cash out when they are up and end up losing it all back to the house only to go into the hole deeper. I'm not sure what these recent sales imply. But this does seem to relate to the "cash flow" game where people would rather liquidate something for cash rather than wait on future returns.

I don't see any reason to be selling in fact if there was any advice I would be giving people would be "buy, buy, buy". I don't know any other business where you can buy a name for $5-$500 and turn it for $1,000-$2,500 with very little work. Not all the money is to be made in PPC. Like Duke has said small business accounts for about 70% of the economy and there are more self employed people as part of the "free agent nation". More people are working from home and enjoying the independence....I know I am.

I think I may have committed many crimes in the past.

I made the mistake of using Pool, where I bid against myself, alone. When realized this, my left hand made an agreement with my right hand to stop bidding in return for a sexual favor. Such "payment" commenced immediately, and it affected the outcome of the auction. I should probably turn myself in :)

I think some are making a bigger issue out of this.
I cant see anything wrong if a few of us want to share our identities in order to ''cooperate'' for better pricing.

http://www.usdoj.gov/atr/public/guidelines/primer-ncu.htm

"Bid Suppression: In bid suppression schemes, one or more competitors who otherwise would be expected to bid, or who have previously bid, agree to refrain from bidding or withdraw a previously submitted bid so that the designated winning competitor's bid will be accepted.

Bid Rotation: In bid rotation schemes, all conspirators submit bids but take turns being the low bidder. The terms of the rotation may vary; for example, competitors may take turns on contracts according to the size of the contract, allocating equal amounts to each conspirator or allocating volumes that correspond to the size of each conspirator company. A strict bid rotation pattern defies the law of chance and suggests collusion is taking place.

Almost all forms of bid-rigging schemes have one thing in common: an agreement among some or all of the bidders which predetermines the winning bidder and limits or eliminates competition among the conspiring vendors."

eczema has a little time left, but it looks like its an end user maybe?
The price isnt realistic, but then OVT results are amazing.

so, is it illegal or not if a few of us that are apparently bidding on the same names talk it out here (PM)???
I'll go with the flow, but I think Its crazy after what WE have been through as speculators that we cant for some legal reason not be able to split the bids....

I kind of feel embarassed to bid now against people that I know are here.

I just saw your PM. I was out of my home on a 56k and with 100+ auctions on snapnames I was not able to see my emails.
Anyway this theory works better if there are only 2 bidders in more than 1 name AND they don't care too much about a name.
As for the domain you PMed me someone else made a bid also so I couldn't have helped you.

the post wasnt targeted at you personaly, although you were also on my PM list.
This entire thing could have been avoided...

When quite a few people are bidding under a name over a distributed arena, it could have worked.
Glad to see you are back now.

anyhow, too late now.
OTHERS I PMed, well, I guess like I said, this theory is dead.
:-)

My thread-starting post was on behavior in multiple head-to-head matches when it is easy to sort things out, even by intuition. Once you get a whole slew of bidders, things pretty well default to full on competition.
