I am looking for a good place to get a script like the one running this forum.. I am looking for a free one, but a decent priced one is OK. I have heard of phpBB and vBulletin, any other good ones?

phpBB and Invision board comes pre-installed on some hosts - I like both of them. They also have their own forums for hacks and skins etc.

I am currently using phpBB and it's a great tool. It is free and you can customize it any way you want if you know how. I'm a php newbie but I think I've managed to customize it pretty well in the website I am currently developing. They have a forum at www.phpbb.com where you can get support, all for free of course... Plus there are mods available.

This leaves me wondering why people go with vBulletin and pay alot to get a simple looking forum

vbulletin is the best on the market but it costs $80.00 a year - in my opinion it is well worth the money (this site uses it)

ive used invision and phpbb and invision has a better set up but phpbb is more popular so more mods etc are available

i used x forum in conjuncion with php nuke too

i havent used ikonboard etc from an administrators point of view

check out http://www.forumdirectory.net - that has a list of just about every forum on the market

vbulletin is miles ahead of phpbb in every department - you simply cannot compare the two as far as modifications and options go :)
