Hi

I bought www.brandingconsultancy.com today - a bit long but to my mind has a clear value which exceeds the $12 I paid for it.

When people answer the question of 'what is this domain worth' the answer is often 'it's worth more if you develop it'.

Can anyone explain exactly what they understand by this phrase? My belief is that developing a website around a domain name might actually decrease its value, although I am accustomed to increasing the search engine prominence of the domains I own - do a search on Google for 'insure art' to see what I mean.

its like yahoo, google, or altavista, who ever heard of those? no one until they developed and did some advertising.........thats what they mean, as far as your name i would say its worth $0 because its branding? consultancy?- doesnt sound right (to me anyway), but with a developing strategy you might do good .

Are you a branding consultant or just a domain speculator?

If you are a branding consultant, I imagine you would want to start putting content into this domain, a logo maybe and some related graphics. At minimum (even if you were not a web designer) you would want to write a paragraph or two describing the concept you are peddling and slap some contact info or feedback form.

This is called "development". In most cases, it follows that the domain would be worth more (not in all instances --I suppose not when the content contrdicts the name) if you inserted a concept or idea to go with the domain name. You could of course hire someone to do this for you or you could take a stab at it yourself.

Now let's get back to valuation. I am a large fan of "consultant" but not as much of "consultancy". Perhaps it is used more in GB or other countries. I Hope so since I just looked at your location.

Given my inadequacy in appreciating the 2nd word, I ll take a stab at valuation at around $215

PS more if developed... LOL gotcha!

Beside one on seekon.com, do all other links pointing to revs.org
actually come from your other sites?

I seem to have a different viewpoint from most of you here, but here is my opinion.

branding consultancy is of limited use as it is targeted towards the consultants rather than the clients. domainbranding or brandingadvice would be more lucrative because they do point to the ultimate consumers of branding services.

Thank you for your comments. You've made me address what it is I'm actually doing.

My strategy is to sell domain names, but while I own them for them to contribute to my search engine presence for a range of strategic phrases.

Hence, I'm building up a range of keyword loaded domains containing branding related phrases as a small portion of this strategy. There are bundles of other 'nests' of words/phrases that I am working on elsewhere.

For the brand 'nest' I expect to buy up a whole bundle of brand-consult type names when I feel the inclination over the next few months, and search engine optimise each one. My basic idea is to achieve a high specific search engine prominence for a small range of key words, and a broad presence for a wide range of key phrases. A sort of breadth and depth concept.

This is one of the reasons I asked the question about development, because I want to build this tower of babel on stone, not sand... if you'll pardon me for mixing my metaphors and introducing Dilbertisms into the discussion.

>> Added: you might reasonably ask where www.sevenpeas.com fits into this master plan

You could talk me into selling GoNiche.com to you. Seems to be a big buzz phrase at the moment in marketing.

DomainPairs - one of my strategies is to buy lo, sell hi :)

Added: note that the following are unregistered:

nichebrand.com
nichebrands.com
nichebrandstrategy.com
nichestrategy.co.uk
brandniche.co.uk

I think goniche is much stronger, but actually I bought it as a wind up for someone, so I don't know what i'll do with it.

Probably use it for some deviant focus site :D
