What should I be asking for this?

Personally, I think it's a great candidate for a big sale when a TD Waterhouse or competitor wants a new site for a special promotion or an educational site to pick up leads. Anything less than $10 million is chump champ to those guys. Any other opinions?

It works with a number of industries -- Stocks, Investments, Yachts, Real Estate. Mortgage, Business Resellers, etc.

I recently had an interested buyer who backed out because 'a friend told me non-city generics have little value'. On second thought, I'm glad he backed out, my price was too low.

Thanks!

I was the person that inquired about the name. Since there was no deal, I don't believe it is correct to say that I "backed out" but I would be interested in other opinions as well. I asked several friends (who are members of this forum) for their opinions - which I shared with you. I will refrain from appraising the name because I, too am interested in the value of this.

Hi -

I didn't mean to imply that you reneg'd on the deal or did anything unethical -- but I did make a package offer that you eventually declined. You are a good guy in my book, but ya missed a great opportunity :)

Hi,
nice name. This is a difficult one as i think the reseller & enduser value are poles apart. Often the case with .info tbh, as you know.
Reseller: $xxx mid/high
Enduser: $xxxx low
cheers

BTW - as you recall I offered to buy any generic domains your friends had at the price they said they were worth, and none responded. That means one of 2 things:

1) They have no idea what they are talking about and don't even own any such names, or (more likely)
2) Want the name for themselves, and will wait a few weeks and try to get the name for the price it was offered to you (seen this done before).

I didn't pitch that offer to them. I also didn't mention your price, but if they want the name, they could easily contact you.

But anyway, if everyone appraises this at $xx,xxx, then I missed out on a good price. As I told you, I asked a few people who I know buy/sell/hold .infos and they gave me their valuations - which were in line with what Predator said. The prevailing opinion is that a name like Pregnancy.info or a city.info would be more valuable than this, because people would be looking for "info" about those topics.

Hi Predator -

Thank you for the appraisal. I'm very interested on your opinion because I think we're on the same track with your valuation of Rental.info at $25,000, Ammunition.info at over $750.

I put Rental.info in about the same ballpark as Brokerage.info, but I see you put it much lower. What are your thoughts on that?

Again, thanks for the appraisal, just trying to figure it out.

Tbh broker.info is on the forum at moment & i consider that a far better domain than brokerage. I think the high offer on that is $5k.
We are all biased & love our domains! LOL
i love my rental.info & to me it is one of the best .info's out there. just my opinion. i have had a high offer for $5k & just won't sell for that.
Your domain is nice but it is the stretched version of broker & think it would do well at auction or for an enduser. Actually the same for all of us.
Don't want to sound like don't love the domain, cos i do but personally as a reseller wouldn't pay more than mid $xxx - high, many more would, but i always have to think of high flip margin. Maybe i'm tight? LOL
I think big .info sales are due. There haven't been any decent ones for ages.
It's the same problem at the moment with selling . If you want the top dollar you have to wait for the big guy.
Have you considered development to tempt in an enduser?
Here's one to consider though..
sextoys.us - sold for $50k+ on sedo the other day
sextoys.mobi - owner has 17,000 EURO offer on sedo
sextoys.info - I OWN - highest offer i have had is $2k. No offers for months

I've got it in the Traffic auction so we'll see!

Message to EJS's friends: Please sell me your generic non-city .info's that are on par with Brokerage.info at the price you told him they were worth!

Thanks :)

Pred -

Thanks for the additional info.

Maybe it's a US English vs. British English thing, but to me 'Broker' refers to a individual, and a 'Brokerage' is a firm. If I wanted to hire a person to sell 1 item I might try to find a 'Broker', but if I wanted to sell a lot of items I would look for a Brokerage.

As far as big .INFO sales, there were some huge ones that had to be kept private in 2006, but a very recent public one was Credit.info at $36,000 at Sedo.

I've attended TRAFFIC and the feeling I get was that they are the 'old school' .COM crowd -- those who bought .COMs in the mid 90's, so .INFO is just a dilution of the value of their portfolio. They have every reason to 'talk down' other extensions because it causes a direct loss in value of their own portfolio... but I do wish you luck with it!

.info was hot last summer but that was it. I almost bought a state.info for high $X,XXX and i'm ever so happy that the seller backed out.. So in my book it will take a long time for .info to catch up again...

as for an appraisal, I concur the $1500 - $1800 price range quoted above for reseller and sorry to say broker.info is better than brokerage.info nobody says "hey my brokerage (firm) told me to buy this" or
I went with Wells Fargo brokerage"

PS I didn't give Elliot advice on this one, although he has pinged me before for .coms :p

I can not believe I just read something in print that actually comes from my very own thoughts!

For years there has been poor advice given and continues today. If everyone would just stop for a moment, look at what is actually selling and the money it is bringing and one thing should impact you immediately...there are no rules.

No numbers, no hyphens, nothing but .com, no more than x number of letters...all old school, all dated information, and all bogus in today's market.

That has been a HUGE factor in my reluctance to get involved in any forum dedicated to domains. I have been in domains for years but read and listened to so much piss poor advice from the so-called "experts" over the years. We need to open our eyes to the market dynamics. And quit thinking as if English was the only spoken or printed word.

Yes, a two letter or three letter .com will always rule the popularity and domain wars, but those are so few and far between let alone affordable for most people's pocketbooks.

Look at TDNAM, Sedo, and any host of auction sites and forums. Look at what is selling and why it is selling. Does it make any sense? No. But who cares what we think. It is the seller and the buyer and the auction mediary that cares.

I wish we all owned a Vodka.com.

The winners in this arena are the ones who have the name that someone else wants.

Pred...good luck with Rental.info. I think 25K for a pure generic domain is a decent starting point, even if it is info. It covers the whole spectrum of all rental industries across the globe.

circa1850 - I think another way to look at what we're saying is that in a very real sense, TLD's are like 'brands'.

Experience has taught you that a .COM site is older, generally more complete and authoritative. .ORG is usually a non-profit organization with less detailed design. .NET is usually a home business that couldn't afford the .COM. .BIZ is usually a spam/PPC site, a .US is usually PPC or under construction, and .EDU is a college.

Over time and as new people come online, all of those learned experiences will change. .COM will become just another TLD as people learn that any domain works in several TLDs, and even more frightening for the old-schoolers is that .COM will become known as "commericial" or more as a "brochure" site TLD. If .INFO picks up the perception the name implies, it could become the INFORMATION SITE tld.

This is critical - people don't get on the internet to look at .COMmericals or brochures, they come initially to search for .INFOrmation.

If you don't think things can change fast on the web, look at growth charts for YouTube, Google, MySpace, and so on.

I'm always asked if the new TLDs are hurting my .INFO investment, but I think what's really happening is the new TLDs are teaching people is that there is more to the web than .COM, and the steady increase in .INFO type-in traffic we're all seeing is proving that.

So... yeah, if I had a big .COM investment, I'd downplay the 'competing' tlds too. :)

I recently read, perhaps it was on this very forum, that there are 256 extensions? That is staggering. Now ICANN wants to remove some. Several have not been in use for years as some countries no longer exists.

A strong dictionary name or word is a strong dictionary word. Admittedly, some TLD's do garner more attention and bucks. I do believe there is a hierachy of domain structure and valuation but looking at what is selling and who is buying, what is "old think" is not even a factor anymore.

A recent sample of top 10 sales from TDNAM shows some interesting sales:

uspharmacymeds.com $4,820
classicsexmovies.com $4,605
kidshub.org $3,550
hollie.com $3,501
travelmanagement.com $3,004
novafamosas.com $2,805
fordclub.com $2,405
gotrotter.com $2,210
enterprisedesignsolutions.com $2,010
bfbanners.com $1,715

Some are no-brainers in regards to popularity but some make no sense. And it does not need to make sense to us.

If I own it and you want it, that's all the sense needed.

Broker.info, Brokerage.info, Bro.info...they're all good to me. I don't own any of them. How much are they worth? They are worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Speaking of worth, who wants to buy my Cisco stock for what I paid for it?
