I am looking to buy some domains that are not reged yet..


I noticed on one thread if you go to googles and type in the

"word" that will tell you how many sites there are, correct?

What is a good number?

Let me ask it this way..

Lets say I own

greatmaps.com I typed it in google and it shows 9000

Is that Good...?

Now lets say I have a word like..

fourtwenty.com I type it in and it shows 800,000 results... Is that Good...?

Ok.. Now lets say I have Gutters.com and it only shows 127 results.... Even tho that is lower its seems to be a better name.. So I am just a little confused..

Can anyone give me the best advice in which determine what is a good number>.

here is my answer as newbie
and if you are talking about keywords results without extension

general words in the name misleads you to believe it is awesome
like great , nice , cool ,

but if you got results for 2 words more than 5,000,000 you may register it even if it contains general word but no abbreviations

but still nothing guarantee a value!

try overture term searching give you better idea

Check out one of our members sites: http://www.parked.com/tools/check.php its a tool which will check a large number of domains for various things

Ignore pop/rank results in general. Has little to do with value to a biz buyer. My best sales to date (over 100k's) were always showing abysmal rankings (like 1-10), same for the 10k to 40k sales. Pop info is always meaningless except for traffic/ppc sites which is entirely different for outright sales.

Common sense is always a factor too. .. if you saw fourtwenty.com, and gutters.com available, which would you register? :-D
