Hello,

The market for music and video in old formats is fair decent (check ebay), ive seen very prosper eCommerce websites and they offer music/video in old formats, they seem to do quite well.

Did you know some LP records are worth 10K? i know that market too :)

These domains are perfect for eCommerce websites or a trade forum.

Appraised at Low x.xxx each to an end user.

Regards

I think their worthless. Cassettes are in landfills... a lot of people have VCRs, but a shop for just cassettes or VCRs is not very good.

I'm the middle of the previous two. Their days are numbered though and beyond nostalgia, it would probably be best to offload them while you can.

With that said, people were saying records were long obsolete and yet they are still being printed...

Recordshop would be awesome... cassetteshop.. not. People still call them records whether their vinyl, cassette, cd.

I would be willing to bet that most people here still own a VCR! Cassettes, maybe not so much. I am planning to sell these names - just not sure where/when yet.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Believe it or not, there are still some countries in the world (some of them in Africa) where the good 'ol casettes are (much) more common than cd's or mp3. In these areas, you won't find much consumers that buy on the net though. It could be interesting for shopowners or wholesale.

good luck

So with all this said, what do you think my asking price should be to a reseller or possibly an end user?

Apparantly video and audio cassettes are dead!!! Bullshit.... There will always be the retro market..

Look at vinyl music now.. CD's , ipods etc were meant to kill them off, but there is a huge revival of vinyl now.

Hang on to them until your kids don't know what they are :) then they will give you a return when they become "fashionable" again LOL

I just put CassetteShop.com on Ebay @ $19.99 with no reserve. I guess I will let the open market determine the price.

That was a bit hasty..

It will only be worth a few bob in a few years...

Hold on to it at least until cassettes are more scarce, then you might be able to cash in for a few hundred instead of 20 bucks

I am confident it won't sell for only $20. But if it does, someone will certainly get a great deal.

Not really.... at this current time it's not even worth 20 bucks, so I'd be surprised if you even got a bid.

Please post a link to your ebay sale!

I hope I'm incorrect, but watchers are not bidders!

You are right regarding vinyl, but I don't think cassettes will ever have as much retro chic as vinyl...

one of the things about vinyl is that they are not easy to duplicate, or copy, whereas tapes... very easy...

also part of the reason vinyls are still fashionable today is because of their use by dj's... vinyl records have a use that CD and MP3 can't provide...

Cassettes dont really provide any unique feature... except its low quality.

vinyl will always be used.. For sampling music by producers and Live performances by alot of different artists, who refuse to use a DAT if they're not using live instruments.

Whatever the case may be, there is still a huge market for cassettes. Just look on Ebay, Amazon, Google, Overture... etc. People are still trying to buy cassettes. Personally, I don't own a cassette player or a cassette, but many cars still have cassette players as the basic tuner. As I said before, I will let the open market determine the final value/price.

I just remembered this was on ebay - logged in saw 1 minute remaining and bid expecting to see a flood of snipers - alas I got it at the opening bid.

I'm going to build a website around it when I get the chance.

I only remembered because I went to the flea market today - people are still buying up vcr cassettes and tapes believe it or not. Collectors collect what they collect I guess...
