For Sale Caught 3-Letter .NET - Was on Registry Hold?

It appears that NW caught a 3-Letter .net for me today (marked Pending). The Who-Is for the previous registrant shows it being registered in 1997 and not expiring until November 2003, but it is marked Registry-HOLD. Am curious about the meaning of that and why it would have dropped today 10 months before expiration?

(From past reports here, I know not to count on NW until the name is in my account).

yeah the "pending" label can be tricky duke, I've had them go both ways after they were marked pending...

I wonder primarily about the Register-Hold designation. There is no web site on the address but no apparent reason why the domain would be dropped 10 months prior to expiration. The company on the WhoIs is German but I haven't been able to find ourt anything about them on the net.

Could have been deleted early for inaccurate WHOIS, UDRP, or other reasons.

Thanks George. The company appears to be gone so the WhoIs info probably was inaccurate. However since the registrar would normally never try to contact you 10 months before expiration, how would they have known if contact info was inaccurate?

Well, I did get the domain. Fastest I have ever seen NW get one and move from Pending and on into my account (took just 2 or 3 hours).

It's nothing special Bid - SZU.net - but it only cost a reg fee since no one else bid on it. I think the fact that is was a register delete (with 10 mos. left on the registration) kept it off a lot of the expiring names lists and no one would have bid much with the Z in any case. That letter makes for a tough acronym, though I noticed in Google that Szu seems to be a common Chinese name.

A list provider apparently knew that it was on registry hold and let me know that it would be dropping. They were right.
